Members bruto
The BBC4 Krautrock video recently linked on both MatrixSynth and SonicState has me wanting to try something with a Motorik beat. Has anyone had any luck with this type of beat?

Members bruto
http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2009/11/16/another-cracking-bbc-doc-krautrock/ This is SonicState's link to the BBC documentary on Krautrock. The motorik beats are in part 4 (you can simply pull this up on YouTube as well.) Neu! and Kraftwerk are the most notable users, however, Tangerine Dream, Stereolab, Iggy and the Stooges all use them on occasion. Joe Jackson's Stepping Out is another good example of a motorik beat. The most well known motorik beat is Kraftwerk's Autobahn. After Neu!, co-founder Michael Rother made several more albums, most having at least half devoted to motorik beats. In 4/4, counting by 8ths: 1,2, skip, 4,5,6, skip,8. So in one measure, you have a high hat on every 8th, a bass drum on 1,2,4,5,6,&8, and a snare on 3& 7. Both the bass and snare are somewhat subdued - not a thumping dance beat, but gentler. There is usually a crash cymbal starting every 8th or 12th measure. Also, a ride cymbal may be substituted for the high hat.. The whole idea is to project a sense of motion, travel, or flow. Members sleepykeith
right on... love that beat. i could hear it forever. i've been noticing a lot of new music coming out over the last 5 years or so with it. here's an example of me using it. i was happy with the results, but could always be improved. the vid is pulled from the 80's classic "The Wraith". Members bruto
Well, here's my first attempt at a Motorik beat: Motorik Study One I like the bass and the main melody, but I'm not too hot on the other parts. Still, it's just the beginning of a project. I may even venture beyond 2 chords.
Members bruto
Here's one by the master of motorik: Michael Rother. This track is a remix, but the motorik beat was tastefully retained.

Members sleepykeith
i'm so glad there's a name for this beat. now i don't have to keep describing it with sound effects to my band mates.
Members ShakaCthulu
Ahahha, The Wraith. What a classic bad 80s movie! The Motorik is a good beat to start out with as you're learning drums. Builds stamina.

Here's an old one from my old group 'olid Gol' - not strict, but certainly inspired by the Krautrock Motorik (btw - I play the bass, fuzz guitar, and droning synths, organs etc. I also... 'produced' it ):
