Members wackawa
...... the ones with the serial ports like the MTP II or the MTP AV? The 'specs' say that you can program everything you need from the front panel, but I'm wondering would I need to hook it up to a computer for anything important? I don't have any serial ports and am just looking for something stand alone. Any thoughts?
Members augerinn
I have an older motu express xt parallel. It definitely needs the console to configure it. It's kind of a pain to get the right drivers. MOTU is MAC-Centric, and does not support gear bought 2nd hand. That said, once past the learning curve, and the with the software installed, it's a great little unit. BTW, once programmed, it works as a stand alone unit. Also, if you buy one, check the serial number. The older ones are not XP compatible, and you actually need an upgrade ROM (about 20 box from MOTU). Members wackawa
I figured it needed the computer interface for something. I imagine thats why you see these old ones going for so cheap.
Members gordonwiebe
I'm using the MTP AV without a computer. It works fine for simple midi patchbaying - 8 synths in to a sequencer and then controller etc... not bad for $75 (+ i got, and flipped for $40, a free d-110 in the deal!).One problem I am having is that I can't figure out how to save my patch/configuration from the front panel - possibly this is requires a computer, or, my solution: never turn the unit off!
