Members Enoch
Looking for some suggestions as to the safest and most efficient way of cleaning up an older VA synth, specifically a Yamaha AN1x. I picked one up for next to nothing on Craigslist and from first appearances it seems to work perfectly fine. It's absolutely filthy though - dust, pet hair and debris in every nook and cranny. I'd really like to get this thing cleaned up inside and out but I'm not exactly a "techy" kind of guy - don't really want to tear off the casing and go poking around without knowing what I'm doing. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks! (And yes, I am a nubie to this site/forum. I DID perform a thread search for any mention of synth cleaning and came up empty. So if this topic has been discussed here previously I offer my sincere apologies.)
Members augerinn
Like porcupines have sex. That is, very carefully. Dis-assemble, soap and water. Re-assemble. that's the way I always do it. Maybe vacumm out the interior, or very carefully hit it with canned air.
Members Metrosonus
ah that's what i call trailer funk. it's also 1/3 in varying amounts of air freshener and cigarette smoke. that was the number 1 thing i hated about being a PC tech. don't wash the circuit boards obviously. Members Gaul
You can safely put any plastic part in the warm water with soap/shampoo, and let it stay there for some hours. Wash it, wipe it and dry it thoroughly before assembling again.
Members moondad
. don't wash the circuit boards obviously. Well, it's probably unnecessary, but there is no problem washing circuit boards. It's exactly what to do if you spill coffee/beer etc onto them. Best way is to leave the board to soak in a bowl for a while - distilled water is best. The important thing is to ensure that the board is completely dry before you switch it on again! Members midi
I would just use a can of compressed air all over and then use some of those Windex wipes to really clean the surface and the keys - does it work OK?
Members midi
And how much did you get it for, may I ask?
