Small Gig Rig with JBL Passive Speaker?

I use a full PA (Soundcraft PowerStation 600 + 2 x JBL EON 15) for most gigs and my Electro 3 sounds great for everything (pianos, EPs, Organs, samples).

Now playing more small gigs, jam nights, acoustic nights and need a smaller, more portable sound system. Looking at keyboard combos (except Roland!) and single powered speakers including the Yamaha StagePAS PA.

In the meantime I wondered if I could make use of one of the JBLs and buy a small amp/powered mixer to go with it but not sure how this would match up as a single speaker solution.

JBL EON spec is:

Power Handling: 250W

Impedance: 8 ohms

Any advice welcomed.

I have had great luck with the Stagepas 300. It's incredibly versatile, durable, lightweight. It sounds good, great setup for a small stereo (or mono) rig. The sound is much clearer than the Roland stuff, probably about on par with JBL's passive midrange line. I did spring for the wheeled Yamaha case and feel it's worth it. SP300 gets used indoors, outdoors, camping (burning man), house parties, clubs, warehouses(!) and practice- never a complaint or a hitch.

To beef the system up when required I have a QSC K-Sub, as the SP300 system is unsurprisingly bass light.

I am unclear why you would need an amp or powered mixer to go with your EON 15, as they are self powered- have I misunderstood?

The JBL's are gonna be hard to beat. Sure you can go mono and just use one speaker for smaller gigs. Thats be my choice if had your current system. Better then getting new one. Alternately, you could get a couple more jbl's, smaller ones to use for smaller gigs and just turn down the amps volumes as needed for them.

Yep, I think that's good advice. The sound quality of the JBLs and Powerstation (for keys, voice and electro acoustic guitar) IS unbeatable and even with one speaker it still sounds good - tried it at an acoustic gig the other night. The mixer is clumsy but it's going to be worth the hassle to retain the quality.

Thanks to all for the advice.
