Members Thorhead
Well... I just saw this, a new instant classic product demo by roland, matching the V-tar and Singer's FX box demo in stupidity... (The video includes content by roland, be warned!) Roland took all the V synth rack jokes too literally. Well at least that thing has no "V" on it. But seems like roland is continuing their pool of copied products with more crap. I wonder if they are ever going to just scrap this crap and release the AX-7 with AT and wireless midi... Members Thorhead
http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2595539 What?I have been out rolanded! Gotta raise the stakes here: Try if you can make it through that video, chances are you could get to work @ roland. But seriously, is roland trying to make the "Only thing that I do run through roland is my chainsaw" phrase to apply for ALL their gear now? Members Gribs
I think about this a little differently. Roland is a company that not only needs to make profits, but needs to show growth in order to be perceived as having value. They are doing what all companies have to do in our growth-based economy, which is to use their core technologies to move into adjacent areas. This can be sideways into completely new market areas (like say if Roland were to start selling kitchen appliances) and/or up and/or down the chains of their current market areas. It is clear that this product is a move down the chain of electronic instrument technologies from professional to consumer electronics music and entertainment products for children and families. The particular videos are oriented at children and in particular seem to be oriented at Japanese children. The tone of the advertisements seem very Japanese to me and may not be the correct way to go for marketing to children in N. America and Europe (not so sure about S. America). If I were a Roland advertising executive, I would consider seriously hiring a different and/or better localization team to develop some different commercials for audiences in the N. America and probably Europe, too.
Members TropicThink
Who cares about this {censored}. I'm still wanting an SH-2, an SH-09, a V-Synth and perhaps a JP-8000 in addition to the lovely Rolands I've already got. There are lots of nice used gear out there and more than a few companies still making great new gear, and I don't own any Fisher Price stock, so I'm not worried about Roland's new business goals. They could start making frozen pizzas for all I care.

Members AnCap
Meh, this is a market they are already all over. There are a lot of things that are actually cool they could have made. Not to mention this appears to be way over priced. Needs to be around the $200 dollar mark to compete with the Hello Kitty Strat. The real analog market is wide open, and probably has room for huge margins. Roland, make a new analog synth to compete with VAs and real analog synths. Members Umbra
This redefines the low end of the market. Couldn't they at least get a mom model that has big boobs? Thank goodness they added a poor version of the jump patch.
Members AnalogGuy
I have only one word to say; LOL! This feels so much like those older products from casio like midi guitar and saxophone controller: Too toyish for serious musicians and too expensive as a toy. As a result, Fail and flop! I could bet that we don't need to wait more than just couple years until the second hand market will be having a big load of these because of disappointed people who were buying these just for a few minutes fun and then throwing them away as toys and then you can buy these for cheap because they really look like toys and people are not expecting them to be expensive. Members NuSkoolTone
Lucina=Gayest keytar EVAR Seriously, if you're a dude who'd be caught DEAD wearing one? They're already a touchy subject, but could have they made the lucina any MORE feminine? Even right down to the name! Plus, thus far is sounds like thin wimpy crap. Sometimes I REALLY wish I could be a project manager at one of these companies. Assuming the bean counters didn't stop me, I seriously feel I could do a better job! Members Miket156
I have to agree with Gribs on this latest Roland toy. But whether we like it or not, the synth market has a limited customer base. Many of us old fossils aren't buying a ton of gear anymore and are more critical of what we do buy. AND we expect lot for even lower priced gear, and then complain about poor build quality. Roland is targeting the amateur musician wannabee with an expensive toy. If they actually sell any of those KB's, I'd say they will make a boat load of money. I doubt they will have Joe Familyman bitching about where they put the buttons to change sounds on that board, even after he gets it home and finds he will accidentally switch sounds on it when his little family band is playing a song. The semi pros and pro players beat up the big three quite a bit. Korg has been taking a beating on the SV-1 because of what it CAN'T do rather than what it does well. The big three are probably real tired of all of us and want different customers! :poke: Cheers, Mike T.
