Members Mia
I'm a bit of a tech newbie! I was wondering if someone could help me out. I was planning on buying the Alicia keys piano software... but is it possible to use these sounds live? As in, gigs, shows, etc. I have a Korg SV-1 stage piano... it does have Midi in/out and many other inputs/outputs like usb... but is there a seperate device I could buy to run through to let me use the sounds... or do I just run it from my macbook pro? (Keeping quality alive). I do hope someone can help!! Mia.
Members Spleencage
Gawd I hate her! Mediocre singer/songwriter apparently is now some sort of guru on programming and VI design? If you read her article in this months Keyboard mag you will instantly see she's a total gear moron. I guarantee if she was an ugly fat chick we'd never have heard from her, instead she gets the cover of a TRADE magazine and sexy photos. Way to go Keyboard magazine for popularizing and grandstanding mediocrity in a trade magazine.
Members pogo97
You should be able to play it through the Mac. I would assume that the SV-1 can send the Mac MIDI through its USB port and, maybe, accept audio back from the Mac through the USB also (acting as a audio interface). You should check that in your manual. That said, that piano sound would want to be significantly better than the SV-1's built-in sounds before it would be worth adding the complexity of a computer running music software. Live, simple is better.
Members ElectricPuppy
Doug's pretty much got it. So does this mean you prefer Alicia's Keys over the SV-1's own piano? Then why do you have the SV-1?
Members ramkeys
Saw her on TV 3 times and she mostly played with one hand and all technical parts played by a dude off stage left. What a hack!

Live, simple is better. Amen to that. I've listened to the "Alicia's Keys" audio demos at NI's site and it sounds pretty good. It's simply a meticulously sampled version of her Yamaha C3 grand. I'd be happy to have it, but, well, I need another sampled piano like I need another string sound. I am not a big fan of Alicia Keys' music, but she is not without her accomplishments. She graduated from that NYC performing arts school as valedictorian when she was 16 and got in to Columbia. And then there's the minor detail of having sold 30 million albums. All that being said, I'd have to have a strong reason to use a laptop with a sampled piano live, especially if I had a decent hardware instrument. If you're going to do a lil sissy rant like a 12 year old girl, at least try and answer the OP's question.

Members RichF
Hi Mia, Do do this you can plug your SV-1 via USB into a computer running the software, and then connect an audio interface to the computer for audio output (the built-in headphone jack won't sound good enough). I have to agree with a few of the other posters here, the software would have to sound significantly better than the SV-1 for it to be worth bringing a laptop onstage. Is there something missing from the SV-1's piano sounds?

Members Miket156
Forget the laptop, the SV1 doesn't need it. Use the KISS principle for playing live, that's why there's still hardware on the market. With the SV1, push a button and play. I don't know if you feel the acoustic piano is a weak sound on the SV1, but most good quality instruments like the SV1 or Nord Stage will sound better through a quality sound system. Play a great piano sound through a set of portable radio speakers and it will sound like.......................................a piano through a set of radio speakers. Play a great piano sound through a a great sound system and that's what it will sound like. Your sound is only as good as the weakest link in the chain. Mike T.
