I just put together a little album of tracks made almost entirely on my Serge Creature. (there is one software synth used for a total of around 15 seconds on one track, but in the interest of disclosure...) :D

These were some experiments that ended up going pretty well together, so I through some tags together for it, and popped them up.

i was just listening to these on muff's, sounds great man!

you mentioned DIYing up a m-odule with some sequencing and digital {censored} - you should definitely keep us up to date on that!

serge owners everywhere are cowering in shame at your high level of serge-noise output good sir

Thanks! Really enjoying it. I'm also using completely different methods from my standards due to my current limitations. (no MIDI-CV, no sequencers, just mult-tracking, and when timing is necessary, sampling and triggering those) It's nice to break away from my set ways, (even if it's a bit more of a pain to work this way) :D

Planning to grab a Dual NTO M-odule next, and as ScenicSquare mentioned, I'm working on a digital interface/seq/etc. M-odule of my own. Should be able to combine the tested and the new methods when I've got this put together. :)

I hit "play", minimized the music web page [staring at waveforms while listening is predicting of what's coming next] and let the album play non-stop, in its entirety.

You know you like [or dislike] someone's music when you can't decide which track was really your favorite after listening to a few of them. I was wearing my trusty Audio-Technica M40fs studiophones and enjoyed every second of each track... equally; which is unusual for me. It's hard to describe what I heard, but I was attracted to the calculated randomness, the sudden bursts of digital creature-like noises here and there, and the theme consistency [the song titles, as well as the album's, are very fitting]. The recording quality is excellent: listening to something that is so crystal clear definitely and greatly adds to that attraction I felt. It will be hard to convince me that cables and mixers were used in capturing such sound, lol.

I know nothing about modular synthesizers. Are keys involved in controlling the sounds?

You really should keep working on this album and maybe even publish your work once completed. 2 or 3 more tracks should do it.

Beautiful mix of sounds, J3RK. And thank you for the fresh share!:thu:

P.S: as always, I never read previous replies before posting my own when it's about critiquing musical compositions. Pre-conditioning leads to "spoiled" responses in my opinion.

Thanks for the comments Mediterranean! I appreciate it! Except the short bursts of 303 emulation on the first track (hope that doesn't turn off any 303 dislikers! :D ) This was all knob turning, or triggering samples of sounds created on the Serge. (no keys used on these) Much of my past music is based on piano-roll input, or me playing a portion on keys, then hand-quantizing afterward. In the case of these, I've timed things as carefully as possible using cyclical features of the serge panel (offsets between two VCOs, the Smooth/Stepped generator (which you can make some great patterns with,) etc.) Many of the patches are self-running, with me bringing them in and out as the track played. Others are single hits, then sampled, and either triggered via Vember's Short Circuit (free sampler software,) or KarmaFX Synth Modular (software modular synth that has a sample playback module.) The Serge panel (Creature) that I have really lends itself to being played as an instrument, even more than some other analog modulars that I've owned/used. Thanks for listening!
