Members soundwave106
From what I see, it appears to be a Yamaha YC-45D combo organ. Which would make sense because its one of the few combo organs out there with a pitch ribbon controller.
Members mate_stubb
It's a single manual Yamaha YC-30, which also came in red and black.
Members Fisnotigut
Wow. At first I was sure the sound was overdubbing from another band. That actually is a rockin' sound! Really surprised me.
Members Gribs
Oh no, that is the Osmonds, lip-sync'd though. The Crazy Horses LP was the second LP that I ever bought with my own money (first was Best of the Jackson 5 and third AFAI can remember was either a K-Tel hits compilation or Yes Fragile - funny contrast huh?). I think that I was about 8 or 9 years old. I loved the guitar sounds in the Crazy Horses song. Listening to it again, I still think it is a pretty well-done rock song. At the time I bought the LP there was a big anti-pollution and environmental campaign running through grammar schools called Johnny Horizon and the song was apropos even though it came out a couple years earlier. It carries the "Osmond" stigma with it, but the group was pretty "Rock and Roll". I think the stigma comes more from Donny becoming a teeny-bopper heartthrob and from the Donny and Marie show. It should also be noted that unlike many crappy Disney-pop artists of today, the group wrote their own music and performed the music live playing their own instruments. Donny was also a modular synthesizer fan. Someone posted a concert video or picture here a while back with him next to a big Moog Modular.
Members McHale
Crazy Horses was one of the first records I bought and it had a lot to do with the cover. Bought it at a garage sale for 10 cents if I remember correctly. I was going through old records and found it and put it on and up until a couple days ago, never gave that intro sound any thought. I decided to see if I could find a live shot to see what the hell they used. thanks for the info stubb. I'd have never gotten it.

Members McHale
I listened to that (for the first time just now). Please tell me it's an entirely different song because it wasn't familiar at all!
