By "GS", I hope you're not talking about that musicplayer.com place. Those forums are utterly awful and useless. Last time I looked at their keyboard forum, a whopping 7 out of the 10 most recently responded topics were OT crap having no musical merit whatsoever (basketball anyone?). The level of expertise there is woefully lacking, with far too many of the regular posters being actual technophobes (usually guys for whom a B-3 is the most sophisticated technology they can grasp). Speaking of fratboys, the forum is plagued by a group of males who obviously have no other social outlet, and therefore inundate the forum with what can only be described as "private email chat" that somehow got mistakenly posted in public. One is forever reading moronic, infantile nonsense like "hey joe, remember that tagline you used to post 4 years ago, when the two of us social misfits were _still_ using this place like a non-realtime chat room for rapidly aging guys who play in Bon Jovi cover bands?". They actually have a thread where people are supposed to "introduce themselves", as if your questions/posts aren't worth anything until such time as you've ingratiated yourself within "the clique". (And "clique" is the most apt description for their forums). Awful.

At least, this place has a semblance of professionalism, and is relatively free of bored, lonely men looking for someplace to chat about utterly inane personal stuff. When someone comes here to ask a question, it doesn't matter if he's new to the forum or not, his question is most often answered seriously and professionally by _someone_. Even if the answer isn't very detailed, at least someone here will usually make an attempt to answer in a professional manner. Over there, the clique is too busy sharing anecdotes about the last time they had some "titties and beer" to bother answering the question, or even worse, will attempt to "show off" for their buddies by seeing who can give the snarkiest, most disdainful (and not coincidentally, most useless) "answer" to the question. They even have a sticky topic dedicated to "immortalizing" that sort of thing. The whole forum reeks of unprofessionalism.

This forum is vastly superior. It remains a professional forum mostly about musical keyboards, populated mostly by posters who are interested in keeping it that way. If you want a chat room about... nothing much... then the other place will serve that, and only that, purpose.

Gearslutz doesn't allow OT in pretty much any shape or form. And Diametro is the King of OT here, so I find it so amusing that he's going to stick to that forum - especially in a rage about his OT thread being closed minutes before he announced his decision. But to each their own.

Diametro did contribute with on-topic discussions as well, so it will be a loss for the forum. But some people go, and others come in, so hopefully if they don't try another forum redesign, this place will pick up pace again.

Sorry to see you go D. I always read the threads that you posted. Gonna miss those photoshops.

FWIW, I've never met a more enthusiastic person when it comes to synthesizers than Diametro... I still remember his true excitement when playing the Jupiter-8, or talking about the synths used in B-movies of the '70s and '80s. Ok, he might throw a few (a lot ) OTs here and there, but he's a truly genuine synthesizer and music fan - thing that in this forum, lacks. A lot of people are here just to shoot the breeze - not to talk about synths.

Oh well, at least we haven't seen a KSS drama in a long time.

Well said... it was apparent that although the thread was OT, it recieved many more hits (over 2000) than a lot of synth related threads. The OP was pretty passionate about the subject, didn't really see much harm in it all
