The "pure artist>music whore" continuum: Whats your MWF?

As for myself, I'm pretty far along in the "whore" direction. What keeps me from maxing it out is:

I won't play with crappy drummers (on a regular basis)

I hate playing horn samples on a gig (don't have a problem with string section samples, for some reason).

I won't use backing tracks on a gig (YET) .

And I think I deserve extra "whore" points for the mealy-mouthed way I qualified the previous 3 statements.

If it weren't so late, I might cobble together some lame scoring system for computing your MWF (music whore factor). But like most whores, I'm not motivated to do much if there's no money involved.

Where do YOU fit in?

* I won't play with crappy drummers (on a regular basis) - Check! For my extra "whore points" I may add: "I won't play with crappy musicians".

* I hate playing horn samples on a gig (don't have a problem with string section samples, for some reason). - Check! I hate horn samples too. Specially badly programmed ones, played with no technique. Horrible. Strings are fine.

* I won't use backing tracks on a gig (YET) . - The similarities end here. The most of my shows (unless I'm just a hired gun) are based on backing tracks.

I can add:

* I won't play on crappy PA / Use crappy mics. Really. - Those days ended a long time ago.

* I won't play under direct sunlight or under the risk of rain. - My gear and myself deserve a better place to perform.

* I won't perform as a piano player on a 61-keys, synth-action keyboard. - It does not matter I'm not a good piano player :D get me a 76 or 88 Keys baby. I can trigger the sounds from my laptop, BTW.

For over 20 years, my bass has kept a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food in the tummy, as well as pay my bills. Its easy to say what I prefer to do, as opposed to the reality that I need to work and will pickup gigs that Id prefer not to do. Nowadays - especially now as a keyboard player with a dayjob - I am much more choosier......................

I saw Paul McCartney live last month, excellent concert btw, but all his horns are sampled and played by Wix. If anyone can afford to tour with a trumpet and sax player, Paul McCartney can. Even "Got To Get You Into My Life" had sampled horns, not recorded backing tracks - sampled horns. Geez.

As for using backing tracks on a gig, guess what? I've been making them for friends for a few years now. Usually, it's a string part, but I've also done piano, organ, and flute as well (no Stairway.)

Pure Whore.

Although I agree with several of the previously stated "I wont play . . ." the truth is that for me, if the price is right, I will. Crappy drummers, backing tracks, weak PA all just mean a higher quote from me. I even played a big Casino show with a Britney Spears Tribute Act because the price was right.

YES!:thu:For the right price, I would probably play Freebird with backing tracks and a hair-band reject drummer on a 61-key synth-action board in direct sunlight.

Don't know what your problem is with Ms. Spears, though. IMO "Hit Me Baby" is a very well written song, kind of baroque, in fact.
