Are there any software drum machines similar to (Propellerhead) Redrum?

I have a love hate relationship with Reason. It's a bummer I can't record Audio with Reason. I have tired rewire, but I am not satisfied (It wrecks havoc on my system) with it.

Anyhoo, what software/vst do you all use to sequence drums with your favorite DAW? Anything similar to redrum interface? :cop:

Thanks.

I'm glad Propellerhead finally released an audio recorder, but they really could have made it an included feature of Reason instead of a separate application.

If Cubase, Pro Tools, or Logic had tried to do this, their customers wouldn't be too happy.

Well said. I use reason is because of its simplicity to create demos as fast as possible. It would be great if it let you record Audio as well. Users have been complaining about this since the start. When will they ever listen ?

As for Reason Record software, i have yet to read reviews. I would hate to shell $250 for it only to find out it has the same issues I have with rewire (crashing/instability/freezing/whatnot)....

Maschine 1.6 will admit VST hosting too, but I am not sure when it will be out. There is also Xfer Records Nerve (I don't know much about this one), Fxpansion Guru (wait for Geist to come out in a couple of days), and MOTU BPM (also don't know about this one).

Otherwise there is also LinPlug RMV, which is plugin that allows you to put multi-samples or one of several built-in drum synths on each of a set of virtual trigger pads that are mapped to MIDI notes (and thus keys on a keyboard and/or pads on a pad controller). NI Battery is similar but with samples and MIDI only.

For simple drum synthesis only (no samples) but with built-in rhythm machines there are Sonic Charge micro-Tonic and Audio Damage Tattoo. The more I play with Audio Damage plugins the more I like them, especially for the price.

Ok. Guys. I solved the Rewire problem...hopefully.

I think, i wasn't doing something right. I just tired again and it worked.

I had loads of issues with rewire & cubase Le. Maybe it was cubase Le version that was buggy. I now have Cubase Studio and what a difference.

This video helped me as well. If I upgrade to Reason 5, It will definitely be Reason/Record combo.

Thanks everyone.

Reason 5 and Record 1.5 have been reviewed by every major music tech mag in Europe. Sound on Sound, Future Music, Computer Music, Musictech, plus a few us based mags. The reviews are steller. Reason 5 is incredible. Record is so popular with reason users since you can abandon rewire. Record is only at 1.5. It sounds great and is easy to use. Not as advanced as some of the other DAWS, but it will get there.

Yup. I almost bought the upgrade because of Record. I think I will wait for the product to mature a little. it's no where near Cubase Studio. I have a love hate relationship with Reason. It's a great and easy to use tool, but i find it lacking in the audio department. But it getting there. :thu:

I always like talking about Tattoo, sounds great and the grid sequencer is quite nice and flexible, it's all Roland-y but does more. It can also just be used as a sequencer for other softsynths, plays nice with Kontakt or Ableton Drum Racks for sampled kits.

Interested in this one too:
