But in the article he says he had a Jupiter 8 too and that could be that part. Pretty cool. No 303 but Harry Thumann was earlier. Perry and Kingsley did filter sweeps on at least one of their tunes and Delia Derbyshire and Raymond Scott got in the territory. This does sound very 90's goa like if goa was more Indian. Members kooki_sf
[video=youtube;n9hYX4XCzQ4] this is the one. if we are going to ignore the fact that the genre was named after this track, we could go back AT LEAST as far "I feel love" by donna summer (1977), or why not, kraftwerk. Members Acid Hazard
Yes, it is Phuture's Acid Trax.
Members suitandtieguy
10 Ragas With a Disco Beat is an _incredible_ record, but is really more Goa than anything else. (hilariously Goa is named for the Indian state, but "goa trance" was all produced elsewhere ... it was a matter of track selection that makes it "goa". check out this article.) there's 303 but there's no tweaking ... they aren't really acid lines ... the 303 is being used in its "intended application." Members liliththekitten
Yeah, I know Phuture gets credit for it. I just think its a funny parlor game like finding the first punk record, "is it Ramones... no... Stooges... no, MC5... no... Death..." I think its funny how goa it is! Ragas is a bit more acid house than Ice T's use of a 303 in its intended application though isn't it? [video=youtube;2UYMI0eMHxo]
Members Re-Member
I know of a lot of 80's groups that used the TB-303, but as for putting that squelchy acid sound down on record first, the group Section 25 comes to mind. There's a test pressing for the 1983 single Back to Wonder which had a remixed b-side called Beating Heart. On the remix, they've got the TB doing some acid sounds. There's no video clips of the recording online, but you can hear a sample on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/From-The-Hip/dp/B0028EV83O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1305147207&sr=8-
Members Re-Member
Cabaret Voltaire also made heavy use of TB-303 on their 80's work, though not too much tweaking or squelching. [video=youtube;prOjE8gyRL8]

Members veracohr
That's funny, there was a thread on the psytrance forum I frequent mentioning the same album, but the thread was something like "First ever goa trance record?"
Members liliththekitten
love Section 25 and also Cabs! A Certain Ratio did an acid track but after acid house was popular

Members tim gueguen
Speaking of early '303 users another one was Greg Hawkes, who used one on his 1983 solo album Niagara Falls. I doubt it made it onto any Cars tracks.[video=youtube;6hOwVAq6LbU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hOwVAq6LbU&feature=related
