If a Beat Thang drops in the concrete jungle would anyone hear it?

only 1000 made...

If the final cost, after R&D is caculated in, is $500 each that would be $500,000. That's a huge investment for a small company. I respect anybody that has the balls to start a company and have found out how hard it is starting my own company.

Check this out. After years of selling the A2D API announced the 1000th customer in Nov, 2010. I thought they would have sold more than that and shows you how small the music market is.

meh

...said the man who ordered a Kronos ;)

The Beat Thang isn't really my cup of tea but I am amused by how some people are downright offended by its very existence. I am also proper impressed with the gentlemen behind the Thang for making it the way they wanted to and not giving in to the market's expectations. Sure, it is tacky, both in appearance and name and it makes me think of the iJammer & eBumper, but just looking at it makes me happy. I mean who doesn't like LEDs and stuff? I figure it would be a very inspiring piece of hardware to work with, lol. At least it's interesting in some level, unlike all of the other recent hardware DAWs :p

I try not to despise anything or anyone that's actually got off their butts and tried to achieve something in life......

Even if it sucks, it's better than any instrument I've ever designed and created (namely, none).

Good on 'em I say......at the very least it's pretty original.

But, haters' gotta hate.

i don't "hate" anyone, that word is so overused.

i'm just insulted that they didn't step to the plate and make good on their "Presidents' Challenge" and chose to respond to my open acceptance with epithets and rudeness instead.

also, nice use of narrow depth-of-field and steadicam in the Vimeo advertisement.

Their product sounds interesting, but their 'marketing approach' sort of caught people off guard and ruffled some feathers.

It was actually kind of interesting to witness the clash of cultures. Hip hop tends to be confrontational in nature. Rivalry and 'verbal dissing' are all part of the game. People on KSS were left scratching their heads, asking why these guys were getting so standoff-ish about a phrase sampler.

But it's all about beef -- having one, creating one.

In the end, this product came to market too late ... There may be another chance for it ... But the money was to be made 3-5 years ago ... I also think hip-hop, while still wildly important, is not the cultural steamroller it once was ...

It also looks kind of clunky in this post-pc age ... I know it wont have pads, but I think I'd almost rather have something like this on a tablet with a small pad controller ... (Maybe I'm not mobile cool, but I do not plan on tapping out beats on the roof of my ride ... )

Who knows ... I'm still intrigued by it ... It just seems pricey now ...

i am finding this to be more and more true as time marches on. hip hop has irrevocably fused with dance music at this point, and that is what people are listening to. i hear more 909-style than 808 anymore...
