Members cowby
Hi, owned X for more than 2 years and I must say that it is a very good synth + controller. However, I have demoed UltraNova for 30 - 45 mins last week and I found that it is also a nice synth. Question is for sonic and sound wise, I couldn't tell much diff between 2 of them. Is it because I didn't compare them side-by-side ? Other than the sound-interface features, is it worth the upgrade. Pls discuss with program structures and sound wise...... Cheers!Cowby
Members DJ RAZZ
A worthy upgrade. Better VA engine, a new vocoder and mic, better and brouder presets, touch buttons for live, good interface plus it has better filters and ring mod, DAW compatible is more cohesive and modern, more polyphony, keys and better feel, looks cool to me. Winning......
Members liliththekitten
I think it sounds much better and I'm a V-station fan (same as teh X) but the UltraNova sounds better than any current VA at this price. I would miss all the knobs and sliders tbh but the Ultra interface is kinda cool and you could always buy a Remote SL 25 or Zero.
Members Suilebhain
Why not keep both? After lugging bigger boards around in my last band experience, I have decided to go with miniboards on my stand, two of which are the X-Station and the Ultranova (the last is a Micron). The Ultranova has those cool touch mods but the X-Station has the two MIDI Outs for controlling racks as well as having a good sound on its own. To top off my Minitower of Power, I am considering getting a third tier and putting a Photon up top for controlling my WS-SR.
Members Karma1
I recently made that upgrade myself and bought an UltraNova to replace my X-Station (49 key). In answer to your question of whether it is worth it, I'd say it depends on your needs and the features you are looking for. In my case it was definitely worth it. For the kind of ambient music I do, the synth engine in the UltraNova is much better suited, especially for evolving pads, atmospheric textures, and sci-fi effects. I'm using it mainly in live performance and I like the new touch controls they have added. Plus it's got a vocoder which the X-Station doesn't have. There's nothing wrong with the X-Station and it's fine for more basic sounds, but doesn't seem to have the ability to create the more complex sounds of the UltraNova. In addition to playing it as a keyboard, I'm using a midi interface to control it with a guitar, which is interesting. I have my first gig with it this weekend so I'll see how it is in action. I have a lot of other synths that I mainly use for composing and studio work, but the UltraNova will be my gigging synth.
