Heya everyone -

I see that there's a standalone editor and a separate VST editor available for the Phatty series of synths. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two (other than one is a plugin and one is standalone) and which most people are using?

Thanks!

im interested in the same, seems you could do all your patch management via SYSEX within your DAW (or is this not an option with the Phatty? dont know). i could see the use for simultaneous access to some of the knobs. there's this ipad editor, but this may not be the system you're interested in using -

Hey man,

The Phatty is one of the most simple, intuitive synthesizers EVER. Just about every aspect is represented by a knob or button.

Dude, forget editing with a computer and use the dang knobs...they're just waiting for you to twist and push. Go crazy!

Actually, as much as you can do with direct knobs and buttons, there's a whole bunch of useful stuff you can do in the Advanced Preset menu, which would be easier to play with using an editor (or some other kind of additional control mechanism).

Oh, and don't call a chick a dude! Thanks... ;-)

Dude, with all due respect, "dude" is a gender-neutral term, at least as used by my peers and I...males and females alike. However, it is more often utilized as an exclamation like, "dude, there's a krakken behind you!" and not so much like "you're a dude who can put a puzzle together with your eyes closed" though conceivably I can imagine some of my friends saying to their ladies (and vice versa) something like "hold my hand dude."

That's how we roll in JErsey, but I have a friend in Richmond and she throws dudes around with the best of em.

I wouldn't have minded if your advice had actually been helpful and not snarky, dude! Oh, and Richmond is another world... ;-)

Thanks. I'll check that out. I compose in Live, so SysEx isn't really an option. That's why I was intrigued by the VST editor Moog was suggesting, but I'm reading a lot of complaints about it not working correctly.

It also just isn't clear what the difference is between the VST offering and standalone one on the Moog site. Not sure why there are two being offered.

In general, I wish both Moog and Dave Smith would just bundle editors with their synths and not make you pay a 3rd party!

Exactly. There are many reasons, including automation, for someone to use an editor or VST to control a synth. The response implied you were searching for an editor because you are not capable of figuring out the knobs on the interface.

BTW, "Hey man," is not a gender neutral greeting. Just saying.

Edit: Not saying we should strive to be gender neutral or anything. I don't plan to. But when someone lets you know you got it wrong, getting defensive and trying to twist language so that you can consider yourself correct after all is a little silly.
