Has Anyone Purchased a Jupiter 80 Yet?

I bought mine on Friday and am still waiting for it to arrive.

I sold some gear to help pay for it:

PEK, D-50 & PG-1000, so in the end I only had to cough up about $700 out of pocket.

Those were 2 keyboards I rarely used so selling them was no great loss.

For you guys who have bought one, any thoughts? Once I get it I'll put together a demo and post it along with a brief review. I really though hard about the Kronos but decided there would be too much overlap with my Oasys.

Regards

PS----> I was over at the Roland Clan forums reading and posting a bit, and one of the guy was saying how McHale said the other guy he wasnt 'right in the head":lol:

I think I laughed for 10 minutes when I read that because I enjoy reading McHales posts and I could so picture him saying it, lol

Regards

Howz it hangin foo...

Hey Bernard

The Jupiter 80 arrived yesterday afternoon and all I can say is "WOW".

I never thought I would have so much enjoyment playing a synth but this thing has far exceeded my expectations.

Keep in mind I've only had it a day and havnt even read the guide yet, still just scrolling through the sounds, but man, the sounds are Sweeeeeet!

Where this keyboard excels is in the synth department, mainly pads, swells, strings etc.

Very fat and juicy. There's nothing 'cheap' sounding from the sonic spectrum, its very rich, smooth and robust. (highly polished but not fake sounding)

I havnt had it long enough to write a proper review but I can tell you it is extremely well built and put together. I also think it will be the perfect compliment to my Oasys.

This really does complete my dream rig, Oasys on bottom, Jupiter 80 in middle and Voyager on top.

As far as the PC3x, Radias, Sy77 and M1, I think I will clear a nice spot for them in the closet.

Ill try to put together a demo soon.

Regards

The demo video Bernard posted certainly shows off types of sounds I like. The synth looks really nice too -great photos. I am curious about those buttons under the keyboard.

Gribs, I believe those buttons provide access to different banks of sounds, brass, strings, etc.

I laid hands on Jupiter 80 a couple of days ago. Although I didn't spend enough time to figure out how exactly how to do it - the buttons under the keyboard are basically user defined "preset" buttons. Create whatever "performance" patch you want (wsplits, layers, effects, etc.), save 'em - then assign the saved "performance" patch to a "button under the keyboard" for instant access.

Wonder where they got that idea.

IT sounds so good that it makes it hard to watch. Cannot afford that or even a big analog something for at least 2 years or so. I am rebuilding my studio at a snails crawl and trying to keep things going in my live rig. I really need a GAIA, LITTLE PHATTY, MOPHO KEYBOARD, or NORD LEAD 2X FIRST. I also need a good clone organ, REASON 6 or STUDIO 1, and an interface. NEED a new macbook pro sometime, you get the picture.

That sounds like an awesome combination of synths...

I am really glad you like it so far. You can't go wrong really as you have the Korg Sound the Moog Sound and the Roland Sound... :thu:

Keep us posted

Roland needed that demo months ago.. I loved it... I hope DSI also get their new baby in the right hands as I have faith in the Tempest too...

I loath and detest the idea of second hand gear but you can probably pick up an old Roland Analog (hybrid non slider interface less wanted type) for alot less than a new GAIA and have really great sounds... Then you probably know this anyway...

I will not say the ones I like for fear of driving their prices up but they are out there. You just need to make sure they are not faulty.. So buy local and check them out first...

I know some people only go for used gear and I really respect that for the money saved totally balances the sales of their own used pieces. I just seldom do it. It must be mint or from a friend I know and even then it is hard for me to do it. I really love the feel of opening something brand new.

I also love old stuff but I would have to buy it from one of the MOD/ restoration companies which defeats the purpose of the good deal, but my new-old baby would look mint an fresh for years.

I lose money buy selling used to buy new. OCD and GAS at it's worst.

I sold my Oasys to get a Kronos and a Jupiter-80, one of the best decisions I've made.

The JP-80 is:

1. Smooth.

2. Silky.

3. Creamy.

And it looks fantastic in the dark.

What are you waiting for?!! Sell some stuff and go and get one!;)

Thats a perfect way to describe it. :thu:

I'm not one of those guys who are loyal to one specific company of synths, if its good and fits me, then I'll own one. Everyone has their advantages etc.

I'll probably get a Kronos eventually, especially now since they made us Oasys owners the offer in $750 worth of free sound libraries to make up for shafting us.

As far as the Oasys, I'll never sell it, it's such a perfect studio piece and the sounds on it will never get old. It has its place.

The only negative about it is the size and weight, its a bitch to carry, espcally in a case.

The Kronos is so much lighter and gig friendly.
