Members minimoog
Kronos what about it? this has it all , but in terms of sounds to me ears its sounds a normal workstation nothing that i would say , wow that really sounds better than a juppiter 80 or pc3k

Members Meatball Fulton
There's really nothing special about the Kronos soundwise. The big deal is the bundling of multiple sound engines and 16 track audio recording.
Members ChristianRock
Well, I'd argue that in terms of pianos and EPs it's very clearly superior.
Members morten'J
I buying Korg Kronos ,I owned Kurzweil PC361,Yamaha Motif ES 6,tried Jupiter 80 many times ,I get the Wow from Kronos ,I am not sure any have dig out everything in MOD7.You can not add any new sounds to jupiter 80 that you can in Kronos like a bank with MOOG Taurus samples.I have seen Vangelis use Kronos now. Members depulse
It has the Korg sound. Maybe better than the Triton but still in the same ball park. Too expensive for what it is, a subnotebook powered by an Atom processor with a tweaked Linux, that is 200 dollars for the computer and 2800 dollars for the software and keyboard. Members ElectricPuppy
Yeah, pretty much, but I think mostly he's just too lazy to actually SEARCH THE FORUM, where we have a seven-mile-long thread about the merits of the Kronos already. Members zoink
I think the access to information through its touch screen, its SSD, the sheer number and flexibility of the various synth engines, and the audio integration of the Kronos really do set it apart. If they would just give it a bigger screen that tilts (or VGA out and a mouse port) I'd buy one. Sonically, I think what sets the Kronos apart is what it *can* do in a production setting. These are not things you'd necessarily notice when scrolling through patches and auditioning it in a music store. Presently there are a LOT of good contenders in the market as far as sound quality is concerned. The best organs and pianos on the PC3X, for example, sound about as good to my ears as anything I've heard in Kronos. But every time I look at that sexy MS20EX patch panel, or when I consider how straightforward and easy it is to work up patches in PolySixEX, or I fiddle around with Karma 2, I'm convinced that the Kronos really is that much better overall. Members ChristianRock
Too expensive for what it is Well then Motifs, Fantom-Gs and Jupiter-80s are even more overpriced. Nothing beats a computer setup for price, but obviously some people prefer hardware because it does have its advantages - integration, instant access to sounds, stability, etc.

Members zzzxtreme
and to compare pc3 sounds to kronos? pc3 has some good and {censored}ty sounds (such as acoustic guitars and woodwinds). to say kronos is nothing good?

I sure get tired of this argument. There's more proprietary hardware in there than "just a $200 computer". That's the downside to using readily-available components; You risk someone looking at it and going, "pfffff, *I* coulda built that for less from Walmart". So far as I know, there's also some significant heavy-lifting being done in some custom chips and what-not. The Atom is basically just a traffic cop and UI manager. Members McHale
If only it didn't have a fan (other than McHale, that is). I know others complain about how loud it is. Either I've gotten so old my hearing is shot or I don't hear it at all once it's booted up. And I mean, AT ALL - even when I'm not playing. I'm past the "what else does this thing do" stage and am just enjoying creating sounds and playing it. It's a monster and nothing compares to it right now. I have been meaning to put up some demo videos of some "thinking outside the box" things I'm doing with it that I'm sure nobody's done yet but have been too busy the past few months with family matters. By the way, the demo videos will demonstrate something different, though maybe not useful to anyone but me. I'm good for figuring out things that nobody cares about. -Mc

Members ElectricPuppy
I just can't bring myself to buy a Kronos now that I know that they're made of recycled kittens. Also, the touch screen causes carpal tunnel syndrome, the keys are too white, and it runs Linux so aren't they morally obligated to give them away for free??
