Members mikelpanky
RULES UPDATE: You can only use the TAL-U-NO-62 synth to generate your sound this month, including drum sounds (tip: try getting creative with filters and some track automation for blippy brums). Any processing/EQ/effects must be freeware or included with your daw. I'll say this month that it's preferred that you use TAL's DSP plugins, but not required. They are fantastic. Read on for the original post / As per another thread, I feel like this is a great idea to give a little push to make more music, and to critique and be critiqued. The rules are simple: each contest, one free VST synth will be presented. You must make a complete track within any genre using only that synth. You can sample drum hits, process the signals however (as long as the VST FX are free as well), just make sure the presented synth is the only source of sound in the project. Feel free to do as little or as much as you'd like, use any sort of controller you'd like, and post with a description of how you used the synth, and how you composed/performed the track. At a set day, entries will no longer be accepted, and a new thread will be open with a poll and all entries. Voting will begin and continue to the end of the month. Since I did a track with it already and found it to be a simple delight, we'll start this month's contest with the TAL-U-NO-62, an emulation of the classic Roland Juno 60. I can't wait to hear what everyone comes up with, happy synthing! Last day for entries: 4/27/
Members ElectricPuppy
I approve. But, I'm DAW-less for the time being, so I'm out. Also, for posting your masterpieces, I recommend signing-up for one of those personal music track services, like Soundcloud or the like.
Members ChristianRock
Approved I propose though, that external drum sounds be allowed. That would save people a lot of time and enable them to use synths that are not particularly great at drum sounds. What do you guys say? I'm also DAW-less for the time being (well I've always been DAW-less but I am moving towards one ).
Members liliththekitten
ha very cool idea! Should drum samples be free too? What if they are samples what come with the DAW (I'm thinking of the kits that come with the Akai version of Live)
Members ElectricPuppy
I'm for modifying the rules to allow two (2) synths. But both must be freebies. Votes?
Members ChristianRock
Make one of them a drum synth or sampler. And no external samples allowed, only what comes with the free drum synth/sampler. Then I think it's fair!Or maybe, we should allow whatever drum sounds people want to use... with one free synth providing all the synth sounds. Members ElectricPuppy
Hmm. Since Mikelpanky started this show, I think it should be up to him. If he wants to keep this a ONE synth party, then we'll abide. What do you say, Mikel?
Members mikelpanky
Hmm...let's say one synth and one (provided?) set of drum samples/drum machine VST? Something like that? So this month do the Juno 60 and a LinnDrum emulator? I mean, we could always just say whatever drums and just the synth. Then certain months have special things like ONLY the synth, no external drums (especially if we use Synth1 some month). Fair enough?
Members ElectricPuppy
Oh, I see: THIS month we all do the TAL UN-O 62, and next month we all do a different one. I get it now.
Members mikelpanky
Yeah yeah. So...do I create a new track, revamp the existing, or submit as is? Hmm...
Members Gribs
I vote one synth and only one synth. Show your drum sound programming skills! If a second drum plugin is allowed, then make it the same for everyone. Also what about effects and eq? Only freebies plugins allowed? What about stuff that comes with your DAW?
