Members RichF
Gotta say, it's not too often we get a request to make something in a cheap plastic case. If only there was some way of visualizing what this idea might look like...
Members bad andy
Add me too. Call it POLYtron (somebody has been known to do some fancy PS work around here)
Members flat earth
Sorry, couldn't resist a passing Korg mock up opportunity Very basic/sparce design to keep costs down: Monotron 6 & Microtron or just go for it! .......
Members ChristianRock
Sir Flat, What an honor to have you stop by. I always suspected you still lurked at times Beautiful mock-up (the 2nd one, obviously ) I'm just not sure that joystick is in the right place... maybe I'll try to add an attempt using my horrible Gimp skills. Members wwwjd
Sorry, couldn't resist a passing Korg mock up opportunity Very basic/sparce design to keep costs down: Monotron 6 & Microtron ya know... even without memory for patches, and keeping the same exact knobs from 8 monotrons in one box, plus midi, one would create a completely new sound because each voice would be dialed in separately. would be a knob twiddlers delight and a VERY new/awkward?/different paradigm of programming sounds when one knob does NOT control ALL the voices programing. just think of the odd and new sonic possibilities.... Members donaldcrunk
i actually really like your Monotron 6 idea, flat. if there was a way to switch the main VCO tune knobs to have full range or just fine detune of individual voices, i think that would be really useful. almost a mono-poly workflow. i would need a random modulation source in there somewhere in addition to the ADSRs, but other than that i think the concept is beautiful in its simplicity. i love all these silly analog korg things that i own, they sound great and are so simple and immediate. whenever the Polytron comes out (and whatever form it ultimately takes) i hope immediacy of use and quality sound take the priority over adding lots of features. Stick 8 monos in a box, add knobs, keyboard and midi, cheap plastic case and sell for $888 Call it the KORG POLY8ER Put me on the list. $50 X 8 = $400. Members Casio Man
$50 X 8 = $400. Tack on an extra hundred or two for the extras = $595. +perhaps extra $300 for the extraordinary = still affordable $999.
Members DesolationBlvd
So would the "Monotron 6" have 2 envelopes and the "Microtron" have only 1? Is this per-voice like the Polysix, or just one of each like Mono/Poly?
Members wwwjd
$50 X 8 = $400. Tack on an extra hundred or two for the extras = $595. I know I know! That's what I been saying. There would be some extra cost for more electronical R&D, but still, should be the cheapest, coolest new analog ever. I picked $888 because it was clever with 8 voices and all that, and cover the extra stuff: keys, midi, bigger output stage, and.... Would be cool to add an ADSR, but even as is, it would be it's OWN new style of voicing. DSI P08, Minibrute, Mopho, Moog whatever.... spank spank spank spank! Members mildbill
I wonder how well those little Korgs have been selling. They've got all the basics in place, and it seems everyone on several forums thinks a Korg poly would be a great idea. Probably lots of pent up demand after all the belt tightening since the 2008 crash, and a general lack of analog polys, (plenty of monos though).Who knows - maybe it'll happen. Members Casio Man
If...actually when(I'm willing to bet an upcoming Korg analog synth, that there is an analog synth coming from Korg) Korg's next analog synth comes, I wish they keep the polyphony within reason and consider the features in the signal path first. A 4 voice MS-2012 with a step sequencer would be nice enough to make me feel like crying in happiness. Or, perhaps 3-4 part multi timbral synth with step sequencer for each part to make an analog work station. As a cost cutting manouver, there could be a Kaoss Pad 3(or 4, which I also hope is coming) in the middle of the front panel, that would work as sliders for envelopes and step sequencer as well as loop sampler and effects. Members zoink
I don't doubt that Korg has something analog in the works. I just hope they do it right. It would be nice to see something full featured with keys, MIDI, 8 voices, and lots of knobs.
Members liliththekitten
I'm sure they are doing one. I also hope it will be something like a Mono/Poly with a bit of MS-20 DNA. I'm also hoping they will release it without midi or memory. Trigger in for an arpeggiator would be nice and also CV but that can be hacked, as can be midi if previous efforts are any indication. Members donaldcrunk
definitely any sequencer or arpeggiator included with a Polytron/tribe/whatever needs to have real analog sync ala monotribe. much more stable and flexible than MIDI for sync purposes. MIDI if they want, but definitely keep that analog sync.
