How to secure a laptop on your keyboard

I just got a MacBook Pro with the intention of going VI. I'd like to just play out with a controller (Roland RD-300SX), the MBP with Mainstage and Komplete 8, an interface and a powered set of Yorkville PA speakers (NX55Ps).

I could throw a rolling stand in for the MBP, but ideally, I'd just like to affix it to the Roland somehow, so it's right there when I play.

Any secure way of putting the MPB on the Roland?

I use a Standtastic stand if that helps.

Yeah, hoping for something more elegant, though.

One thought I had: given the Standtastic stand has two tiers and I'm only using one, I might make a shelf out of clear plexiglass, mount that the stand's second tier and make a bungee system to hold the MBP.

I always put velcro strips on the blank spaces on my keyboards, since it's so handy. I've put different stuff on top, including small monitor speakers, guitar amp/cabinet clone (great when doubling on keyboards and guitar), audio interface, clipboard (great way to hold a set list), and drawbar controller. Never did a laptop, though -- for my laptop I used a small folding tv dinner tray table, or barstool when one was available.

I put the soft velcro strips horizontally on the keyboard (parallel to the length of the keyboard), and on the devices, either a square under each foot, or if I run strips, I run them at right angles. You only need small squares to stick securely, and this gives more flexibility in positioning. If you run them parallel, the velcro can stick a lot more than you want.

The velcro winds up being surprisingly elegant, but might not be something you want to stick on the bottom of a laptop.

Be sure to get the "industrial strength" type.

Velcro sometimes cannot come off easily once put on and leaves marks. I would never do this to my keyboard. 3M makes command strips that hold like velcro but peel off without leaving any traces. Might want to give them a try:

Although currently on the back burner, I had given some thought to adding a Mac of some sort to my system, and the idea I was thinking about pursuing with a macbook was to use VNC so that I could use an iPad as the screen, with the Mac itself tucked safely out of the way (i.e. with its screen closed).

For propping up an iPad, if needed, I like the Satechi R1 (check Amazon). Though there are also assorted clips that hold them to mic stands, if you want to go that way.

I second velcro... though I don't think I'd ever do it.

I vote top tier shelf and industrial strength velcro on the shelf and bottom of the MBP. Keep in mind to not cover up any vents and make sure the shelf has feet or ridges so that it does not slide off from side to side. You could also run the computer to the side as you mentioned.

Id say that would be best way. Problem with velcro and laptops imo would be your further blocking off airfow to keep it running cooler when its fan is needed. I use axxess accessory rises to mount mixer, kaos pad ect on mic stands. Using velco for easy setup and tear down. It has that advantage. But with laptops you want no impeeded airflow around and under it.

A sturdy music stand horizontal style works or me!

The only issue I see is vibration. I know our lap top thows a fit and pops up a nastygram when gets bumped.

You may want to keep it isolated from the board. Ditto on the music stand. They make a great table

I have a RD300sx ,, great stage piano. I play in an americana band so it works well as a stand alone board.
