Hello,

Here, a new experiment to show the audio quality of the alesis fusion 8hd. No midi file, just all in live.

All the sounds are presets (from internal banks) and the mix with arp too (used for drum/bass track).

This is re-recorded in Presonus Studio One Artist with reverb, chorus, delay and reverb added in a last step.

It's here and just an experiment, not a cover (I'm not good enough for that !!) :

Cheers,

thierry

Just about all Alesis synths are underrated. I never got a Fusion but I use my QS8.2 and Ion pretty regularly for gigging, to this day. They really get the job done, are fairly durable, and even have great features for the money including sample importation, complex mod-matrices, etc.

The Fusion was such a strange animal.  I agree with mate_stubb that despite all the goodies on offer inside of it, I never really bonded with it - mostly for the reasons he mentions.

I keep hoping they'll announce some new synths.

It's unfortunate what happened with the Fusion, not being "ready for prime time."

I guess Alesis wasn't able to recover after it failed. Still, I had hoped by now they would re-enter the synth and/or workstation market with something new. Look at what they had in the past-- just one example--the Andromeda was such a beautiful instrument, despite some of its shortcomings. Hard to say what the future holds for Alesis, but as for now... they seem to be asleep.

Yes you have to use a PC and the Soundbridge software connected to the QS, which burns the the samples to a blank flash card inserted into the QS. Not a procedure for the faint of heart, but it can be done. At least the samples do not have to be reloaded or "streamed" from a hard disk; they are available the moment you pop the flash card into the QS.

You can do velocity splits on the QS as well, by assigning certain velocity settings to 2 separate "tones" in the patch. Again not an easy procedure but it can do it.

I was pretty excited about the Fusion when it came out, even more so when the price was dropped.  They also offered some nice monitors with it for a while.

The VA section was good, the FM section was good, the amount of lfo's, envelopes, and modulation routings was good, and still, it just never clicked with me.

I still have the monitors though - ha ha.

EXACTLY. Paid $500 for Fusion and monitors, sold Fusion for $500, kept monitors. One of the few gear deals that has worked out for me.
