Final Chance To Cry

One more day to live, one less day to die.

Final chance to give, final chance to cry.

Tired of all the talk, lawyers had their say.

Victims line the walk, Judge denied the stay.

Fear is not regret,

Pain is not remorse.

Christians walk the street, no one is alarmed.

Lay me down to sleep, stick me in the arm.

Get down on my knees, no one here to serve.

Don't you cry for me, we get what we deserve.

"Vengeance is mine," saith the Lord

"Vengeance for those who live by the sword."

One more hour to live, one last hour to die.

No time left to give, final chance to cry.

Blimey. The divorce must be pretty acrimonious. They're, well... bitter.

It's not about a divorce. It's an inmate about to be executed, but I can see how you might think it was about a divorce.

Thanks for your input.

I really like alot of it but I just dont like the Judges/lawyers stuff. I understand how it fits with the song's theme, but I think that It can kind of isolate alot of people that would relate to the lyrics otherwise. Maybe you could use something that is metaphorical for judges and lawyers?

I like it. Period. Especially the part about "Fear is not regret" and "Pain is not remorse." The only part I don't understand, or "get," is the one about "Christians walk the street, no one is alarmed." What is the meaning behind that?

I like it, but one problem. How are other people going to relate to it? It's not like we've all spent time on death row, and one of the main reasons for music is so that people can relate to it. By the way, whoever said all links to religion should be cut out, I don't think so. I mean, I write satanic death metal, I have a quote from one of my songs:

"He stood upon the stormy hill, the fire of hell unbound

And cast his word "If God exists, come let him strike me down"

And nothing came, no shout or call or heavenly reply

God is a c*nt, he hates the word, he wishes us to die"

So, uh, yea. Some of my feelings on religion there. In SONG FORM!!! That's jazz!! Or, perhaps, death metal... Uh...

The reference to lawyers and judges is because at some point in time, after they have their say, the execution proceeds or doesn't. If that line bothers lawyers and judges, then good, they should be bothered.

The religious references are there because it is part of the debate about capital punishment. Crime and punishment, retribution and redemption. You know, all that kind of classical literature kind of theme.

The line about Christians line the walk and no one is alarmed is a joke. My thought there is that most times Christians protest, we should be alarmed. Something is afoot.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad I brought this back from the graveyard...so to speak.

Lord of Bass - Thanks for writing in. I think what I was trying to do was to get people to think about being in a cell facing death and all the commotion that surrounds it. The legal, the victims, the protesters. The death penalty in the US is a circus of illusion and politics. Thanks for the comments.

Ah, I think I now understand. So by "Christians walk the street" you are "sort of" saying: "Protestors walk the street." Is that right? I think that's a clever use of metaphor. I do want to go on the record saying that most Christians are pro-capital punishment, however. ;)

Like the lyrics a lot

you *could* change it so people could relate more to it.

But on the other hand, this song reminds me a lot of Creed's "My own prison" Where some metaphorical terms where mixed with real things. I believe a lot of people liked that song :-)

Thanks for your comments. I find it amusing and/or ironic that Christ was a victim of capital punishment and a lot of "Christians" do favor its use.

I was being sarcastic when I used Christians, but it can go either way as protestors or supporters of Capital Punishment.

I am not familiar with Creed's song. I know the lead singer has a big chin and has an affinity for the Christian faith.

I don't think I'd change the lyrics so people could relate to it more. I'd change it to make it better, but not more popular.
