Your answer can be summed up in one word: MONITORS. If you can hear yourself while you're singing, you won't feel like you have to sing so loud. If you have a monitor system with your PA, set that up so you can hear it. If not, try setting up so that you can hear a little bit of your mains feed. It can be hard to do because of feedback problems, but that's the solution.

Exactly what he said. If you dont have monitors, set up so your mains are out in front of the band, facing toward you. If that still doesn't cut it, chances are your bandmates are just playing too damn loud. But you could always plug in some headphones too, to hear yourself better. Bottom line, though: don't yell--you'll only hurt yourself.

Hey bro-

I feel your pain.

Here are some suggestions I have aquired from experience:

1)if you have the money (no one does these days...) get the Shure in-ear monitors - they rock!

2)if you have a little money ($200++) you could get bigger speakers. I have 100 watts going to each 15", and they are on tripods. I put my ear right next to the speaker to hear myself.

3)get the EON G2 15" ...it is self powered, and it is my #1 must have! I have done shows, with monitors, and it is great, since you can hear yourself

4) always protect your hearing. I can hear my singing a little better with earplugs, since my head resonates - I hear that, as opposed to the drummer's cymbol. I put one ear pretty close to one of my speakers-on a tripod.

I hope that helps! if there are any concerns out there at all, please post - much appreciated!
