hey all. i don't know if you've all listened to my tunes i have here on the net, but i got some input from this and another forum i'm a member of to do some re-records. i think they're a lot better now, but if you could be the judge, i'd appreciate it. i redid bass and vox on "basta" and added elec. guit in the left channel of "wise". if you have the chance, check 'em out and let me know.

Blues,

Hard to compare to the last rev. unless they're side-by-side.

I still think they're both funky! If I commented on them previously and didn't like them, please disregard this post:D

I haven't heard your stuff before, but 'Wise' is awesome! You've got some low-down, groovy funk going on there. I like it alot.

Towards the end (~2:20), it seems like you should bring the vocals forward a bit.

Nice songs! What effect did you use for the lead guitar sound on "Gone"? It sounds a little like one of those Leslie rotating speakers. The hi-hat is pretty prominent in the mix (esp. chorus and bridge) but I think it works. The line "with your own two hands" suddenly popping up in the right channel is surprising and a little distracting - maybe a little too effective for this kind of effect. The panning on "is there something that doesn't sit right" sits better in the mix.

But these are just nits - overall, the tracks sound great.

thanx, man. the effect was exactly that; the rotary plug-in in Cubase SX. it's a kick ass plug in with too many parameters for my little monkey brain to understand; it could be really tweaked by an expert, though. i'm very happy with the effect. (i'd love to get my hands on a real leslie or a songworks rotating speaker cab, though!)

as for your input, thanks, i'll take it very seriously; i'm going to revisit these three projects after the summer and concentrate on about six new home projects; it's a little thing i do to try and approach every recording with 'new ears'. i have the tendency to overdo it if i keep listening and re-listening. i know there are definitely imperfections and limitations within, but i'll address them in september! (i haven't even listened to them since i posted - swear to god!)

thanks so much for your recordist's ear, though ('cause i really don't have much of one myself!!)

i'd like to hear your stuff, but myspace doesn't work for me. anywhere else?

great song....I enjoyed it a lot....nice guitar tones...nice vocal melody....the first pre chorus has one awkard timed spot in the singing....not sure if that was intentional....but overall big ole.....:thu:

I first heard Basta first since I thought the whole

song was going to be in Spanish! lol.

Great sound man.

Love the guitar work, I'm a fan of acoustic sound (since I can't play electric I guess! lol ;)) and this song sound fantastic.

It's very well mixed, at least to my ears.

Now, Wise it's a kick-ass song.

Enjoyed it from beginning to end!

Read you used Cubase SX, I'm starting to use CubAse LE but it's a different animal for what I used before (Sound Forge... yeah I know...) and I get lost hehehe

Allright, well I listened to Gone, and I had a bunch of production related comments to make, but after reading the thread I see other forumites have already touched on those issues, so I will let that rest.

I looked at your influences page and I was suprised not to see Santana.....I think youre guitar tone, soloing style and songwriting all really reference that.

All in all it is a very nice song....the verse and chorus are quite strong. The pre-chorus does a nice job of setting up what follows, but in terms of melody I think it is the weakest section. Part of what may be contributing to this feeling is the overly simplistic bassline. I think that something a bit more sonically complex in the bassline here would do wonders for the pre-chorus. Something to think about.

Anyways, great work overall. Your voice is very john mayer/dave mathews while still retaining its own inherently unique quality. Keep at it.
