Start Of A New Song

Hi everyone. I am an ameture singer/song writer (very ameture...:), and just do it as a hobby). I never played or sang in front of people before, but I enjoy writing and singing very much. I know my vocals are not too good (at least to me, hearing my own voice), but I guess in order to find out, I must post something and get feedback.

This is a song that I started last week while just messing around with a few chords. There is only two verses so far, but I think this could turn out to be a good song.

I would appreciate any feedback at all.

Thank you, bobc

I'm really enjoying listening to the song. From the description I had pictured you as a young teen and was kinda wary of what I would hear but to be completely honest, I think you've got a great voice. Very pure and gruff in places, a nice change from the popular 'music' of today. Some parts are a bit rough around the edges singing wise but hell, that's only me searching for a problem so it don't seem like im kissing ass.

Can't wait to hear the finished product :thu:

i liked the simplicity of the song. i'd like to hear more, you seem to be a very good songwriter (just based on this little bit). good songwriters often can't sing (i can't sing, either, but musical ideas have been flowing out of me my whole life) so don't worry about it. it sounds like yer doin the best you can with what you've got, vocally.

i listen for chord/melody and lyrics to be emotional, original, and true-- this bit scores high marks on those counts:thu:

please post more stuff

I quite enjoyed this too. Nice song, vocal not too bad at all. You should play in front of people more and im sure your voice would get better with more confidence. keep up the good work!

Totally off topic Im afraid but Scott, is that bubble picture you have under youre name taken from a jellyfish album?? Im sure ive seen it somewhere other than on this forum?? Perhaps in a jellyfish bootleg album or something??

yes, good catch! i love both albums, even the box set. the best live show i've ever witnessed by any band ever was a Tampa, Fla club gig on the Spilt Milk tour.

as for the bubble pic, i got it from a fansite, i think it's a Bellybutton promo sleeve or something...

Thank you both very much. I try to project feeling with my music, and I try to keep it simple. I think that in the fast paced world that we live in these days, people will enjoy listening to simpler music.

Some of the best songs are pretty simple. It's how ya bring it that counts (I think).

Besides... I'm not that technical when it comes to music. I know the major chords and how to strum out basic rythums, and I like it that way, because it allows more room to add the feeling.

Thank you both again, and I will post the song when completed...:)

simple is often great!

I sometimes set myself a challenge of trying to write a song with no more than 4 chords (preferably only 3) throughout and its really tough to keep it interesting. songwriters who consistently manage this make me very envious!

keep up the good work

it's a zygote of a song. develop it, man. i think it's great.

stop whining about your voice, man. just sing. i think you sound awesome. write in your range, and i'll be a loyal listener

don't forget that antares in on every record made today - period. at some point or another, the vox gets manipulated a bit. we have this tendency to compare ourselves to the machine that cleans up flat pitches without knowing the singer used it. (and they always use it - always)
