Hi all,

Just thought I'd share this chord progression tool as I thought it might help some of you.

I created this for guitarist but it really doesn't matter what instrument you play you should be able to understand it.

As it is now there are over 100 major and 100 minor progressions that can be selected in any key you want.

You can literally write a new song by clicking the "Create Progression" button three times.

Hope you get something from it.

yeah that's the first thing i thought..

you should try and make it to where you can listen!

it'd take a long time to record every possible chord ever though. but it'd definately be worth it to not have to figure out what it's talking about on a guitar before you even know if you like it. i'd use the hell out of it if it were like that-- you could probably even sell it and make a good amount of money if it were like that. as it is now though it's just too much trouble to use

Hey, that's sweet, man!

There was a time when I was just a year or two in when I stumbled on a book with a few pages of 'standard progressions' in the back.

It was a revelation...

I could see this have a similar educational value -- not to mention as a nice little bump when your mind's running blank.

Good stuff!

Thanks guys,

blue2blue you're right its all about the 'standard progressions' learning them and opened my eyes too.

I'd like to make the application have sound too but I ran into some problems with that aspect. The amount of veriations is a problem too as ryanstanley pointed out.

This is a nice application, and I contend that it is far better that it DOESN"T play the progressions for you. That would do several things:

1. It might pre-program you as to how the progression should sound, when in fact that is up to the player. You can create your own rhythm and time signature. Play the chords in uneven beats or bars, chose to arrpegiate, strum or riff. make it jazz, or make it metal, but make it your own. If the progression was played in straight time with a jazz feel to it, you might hate it. The same progresion played in 6/8 in metal style, and you might love it.

2. It would cheat you out of havieng to find those chords yourself. If you know your chords and inversions, this requires no thought at all, and if you don't and you have to look them up in a chord book, then you needed the exercise anyways!:D

Just my cent and a half's worth.

Wow, I must say that is cool. Great idea. So dang quick and easy, well except for having to look up some chords. Still I'm trying to learn as much as possible in theory. This is a great tool. Great job!

I agree with you Blister. I think it's better without sound so you can make it your own.

i've got an idea---

just record individual notes of a guitar, from low E all the way up to the highest note on the guitar, and just have it play the recordings that correspond with the individual notes of the chords, all at once.

just make the names of the chords clickable, so you can hear them sound.. and have a little note saying something like "click the chord names to hear them sound" or whatever

as the other person said, hearing the whole progression would stick a bias on the sound, so just having it to where you can hear the individual chords on demand like that would be pretty much perfect. it'd still be a decent amount of work to record all the notes, but it'd be unbelievably useful. endless experimentation, even beyond the knowledge scope of the guitarist. the only limitation would be the key, and moving between keys is a whole different ball game

Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments. :D

BlisteredPinky your exactly right about the problems that sound might couse.

ryanstanley has a really good idea with the way to solve this. This idea is even more appealing to me because I already have midi files of all these chords already.
