It's Pot Rock!

just kidding. but are all your songs about smoking pot?

Um I would say it's in the style of Sublime or even Lucky Boys Confusion.. if you haven't heard of lucky boys then you should check them out cause it's very similar to some of their stuff. I'm not sure what you call this genre, maybe Alternative/Reggae/Rock

"Ska is a musical form blending Jamaican music like calypso with jazz, blues or rock."

I would term Reggae/Rock as Ska. Many refer to Sublime and No Doubt as Ska and they don't generally have horns.

I don't know. Call it what you want. To me, it's very Ska.

I think if you told people it was "Reggae/Rock" that would pretty much nail it.

I got a chance to go to Jamaica this last November. Man that place was awesome. But I really enjoyed the music scene at our resort, it was awesome-all sorts of styles. They had some cool steel drum bands, and some people who just walked the beach jamming. Very awesome. I think my favorite was Rasta Ralphie. now that dude had a good time with his job. I bought his cd but it wasn't as good as the real thing.:(

Yeah I would call it ska-like, or just flat out reggae. I can definitely here the sublime influence, maybe some 311. Bob Marley would appreciate it, I am sure.

For the record, I like this kind of music to some degree, but it is not what I would normally seek out. The one comment that I have for you, and I am sorry because I know it is unsolicited, but here it is: This kind of music is very dependant upon a hook--Otherwise it all just runs together. You guys are close, but I don't really hear the hook; consequently it is a little bit monotonous. I am not saying that this is bad, actually I like it quite a bit. It's just not quite where it needs to be.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. The songs we have up were all written within the first 3 months of us being a band, so they're not that great. We've got a lot of new {censored} that hasn't been recorded (due to money issues, unfortunetly). The newest one we have up is "Peace of Mind", and even that is an older one.

As for ska, I hate calling ourselves ska. When I Think of ska, I think of bands like Less Than Jake/Catch 22/Etc. I've used the 'Reggae/Rock' title before, but I think 'pot rock' is a keeper, haha. Also, for the record, I don't write the songs. I'm just a humble bass player.

Pot rock sounds like a keeper. Reggae/rock might be the most helpful, though, when trying to sum up your band in a couple of words.

Genre distinctions can be such a pain in the ass. I'm always looking for stuff like this on Soundclick, but it's difficult because the majority of stuff classified as reggae is just hip hop with a guy using a fake Jamaican accent, and most of the ska is the manic-paced Less Than Jake stuff you mentioned. I generally have to search by similiar artist to find anything.

Good stuff, BTW. It makes me bob my head, and that's what I look for.

I've got a few more local artists that do the similar stuff at the link in my sig.

I listened to One Too Many. As far as describing the music, I'd say, "We sound a lot like Sublime". That's definitely oversimplifying, but it gets the idea across, and everybody loves Sublime, right? I agree with everything JSimms said about the hooks, but it sounds very promising, and you've got a good sound.
