Hi

I just finished a new track called She Said, and would like to know what you guys think of it. Its more on the housey side of things, so some of you might not like the style, but maybe you can critique more from an sound design/engineering standpoint. Here's the link

thanks unhorizon and mr O! i really tried to choose sounds that were accessible, the piano being one.

what about the low end? do you hear any conflicts between the bassline and the kick drum? does the kick drum have enough presence?

The lead in is too long ... i pulled the plug before I ever got into the meat of the song. If you dont have things spooled up early in a song ... most people will lose intersts. On the second pass through ,,,i forced myself to listen... until the lyrics came in. I pulled the plug a second time. Most songs are over before this one even gets started. Edit it down and get the ball rolling in the first 15 seconds... the vocals were hard to hear and understand the lyrics. I think you guys are pretty good but, need to work on your song structure.... IT was like 4 mintues before anything is really happened in this song.... rat

It's hard to say with out hearing 1st hand, but I could imagine it sounding good with a bit more presence to the kick at a spot or two in the song as to give it a lift so that you can bring it back down. I may make the song more dynamic.

thanks for the critical feedback rhat and mr 0. i know what you're saying about the vocals, i have gotten feedback from others saying its slightly edgy. i work on softening it and making it more clear.

as for the structure...you probably just dont like house music because all the songs are like that. the beginning and end are long to give djs time to mix in and out. it's a functional decision. when i listen to dance music singles, i usually skip forward in the song 1-2 minutes to see if anything's changed and then stop it around 2 minutes before the end. the tracks themselves are usually 10 minutes, with the first and last two minutes just being a straight 4/4 beat. =) but i know what you are saying about it taking too long to get going. i might to a radio edit one day.

There should be more electronic stuff posted on this board. I liked it. I didn't think the intro was too long. But the song could stand a little more variety - it's basically a drone on one or two chords. Actually I found the ending a little too long...the tinkly piano at the end. Good stuff.

A radio edit would be a good idea. We're a little traditional here on HCSF, and look for the hook. I don't really keep track of the distinctions between the different kinds of techno, but this one seemed really mellow for dance music. Maybe a bigger bass would do it, but this was more like a New-Age track than a dance tune for me.

It has great texture, and I really like the piano sound. I like the vocals, as long as you don't think it's important to get the lyrics across. As it stands, they are just a new layer on the music.

+1 Enjoyed the song, and the forum could definitely use more non-guitar oriented posts.
