Members Oliver Chesler
Hi Everyone, I just posted a Screencast (video) of Harmony Navigator. I really like this software and any musician will have a lot of fun using it. It can also be a great learning and songwriting tool. I am not affiliated with the company that created it Cognitone. Take a look at what this thing can do: http://www.wiretotheear.com/2007/12/31/harmony-navigator-screencast-from-wire-to-the-ear/
Members blue2blue
Interesting. I wonder how it compares with the harmony features in, say, Band in a Box, which are quite developed. (Of course, the BiaB interface is a bit on the quirky side.) One nice thing about the harmony generation in BiaB, you can use it to generate vocal harmonies. By using a jazzy progression to drive vocal harmony generation, I came up with some pretty cool Queen-like harmonies.
Members Oliver Chesler
I also have an interview with Andre Schnoor of Cognitone online. He created Harmony Navigator and I asked him about Band in the Box and what he thought the differences were... take a read here:http://www.wiretotheear.com/2007/12/31/interview-with-andre-schnoor-of-cognitone-software/
Members blue2blue
Ah! That paragraph addressed the differences pretty well. BiaB does allow parameter controlled chord and melody generation but the parameters can be a little narrow or oriented to conventional pop/jazz/tin pan alley harmony. I have to admit I chuckled when I read your characterization of HN as more "modern" than BiaB -- the BiaB look and feel is so 80s... I suspect that, much as indicated, they fill different niches. I'll have to give some time to looking into Harmony Navigator!
