New piece of music

Hi all. I have spend my day today hearing all these soft, dreamy, slow paced electronica sounds in my mind and I decided here tonight that I might just load up Cubase and Sampletank and see where it will take me. So if you like this kind of music, please tell me what you think.:)

Otherwise you may still tell me what you think, but my feelings might get hurt

Note(s): There is a few places, where it clicks due to overload. I will fix that later(ie another day.) The file is 11 mb, so it might take a while to load.

Without further delay, I give you January Electronica Experiment

I like the textures you're getting, but I actually think the drums completely seem out of place. I think it'd be better if you had like a big epic bass drum kind of thing, like orchestral timpani or something. At 2:30 when the drums and piano come in it feels like a completely different song. I think there needs to be some kind of integration with the rest of the piece, or you can just simply move it to the start and build the song from there. I also hope you realize how dissonant the part gets with the synth pads. Perhaps changing it up to be harmonic with those parts when they come in wouldn't hurt. (It's just the top notes in that riff). Actually, I think in retrospect anything before 2:30 is extraneous and is forgotten. You should just start the song there, and anything you want to include from the start you should through in at the end. Hope I've been helpful =D

It's not my kind of thing but this doesn't sound too bad.

But the thing is that there's nothing to hook you or draw you in.

Even though it's a "dreamy/atmospheric/etc." sound I think you should at least have a repeating pattern (as in like a pad "chorus") that sticks to the listener and make us want to keep listening to the very end.. or leave us wanting more...

just my .02 cents.

i would suggest shortening the "intro" (before the drums kick in) quite a lot ... just establish a mood and break it with the drums rather quickly

the bit between the two drum sections could also be shortened

like rsadasiv, i would love to hear more of the groovy piano thing, and perhaps elaborate more on that ...very interesting

overall, an interesting song ... and it builds nicely

it's got a great feel

thanx all for listening. Yes I can understand your feeling of it not getting anywhere, disharmonies and all. I know perfectly well all of these things. And maybe they really are dealbreakers. I just thought - late last night - that it was all good, anyways :)

I listened to this last evening and wrote a little about it but apparently I must have hit the wrong button because I sure don't see my post. Weird.

Anyway, I enjoyed this. I wasn't too sure about the football stadium sized reverb on the drums but I think it kind of works. I like the new elements toward the three minute mark, the acoustic piano staccato bits. The piece is a bit episodic but then that's postmodernism, for you.

Some nice harmonic elements and string melodies. The minimal bit of vocals was... minimal. Almost like a dub mix (maybe it is?) But not problematic. I know from experience that there are more than a couple electronica fans that have issues with vocals in general, although I'd imagine that less is better for those guys, so, hopefully the small amount of vocals here wouldn't put them off. And, you know, you can't please everyone, anyhow. ;)

I really like the layers and the atmosphere the song creates, especially in the beginning, up until and including when the drums come in. Focus on tighter melodies in the beginning and it will really work out. I'm not a big fan of when the piano comes jutting in later in the song - the transition needs to be smoother - I would like to see a build up and maybe pick the drums up (double time) and go to the next part (make sense?? probably not :) ).

Lots of times when I have heard a song, I like to visual the song in my head - like us performing it live, or trying to imagine what type of music video it creates or what I could create for it.

I think this track (especially in the beginning) could be on its way to being a sound track to a silent cartoon - like that flying snowman cartoon called 'the snowman.'
