Members jazzdoc007
Like most of you out there, I constantly have new ideas and put them down...but then get caught up in something else and forget about what I wrote first. I want to try and make some of these ideas come to life. I play keys and I have a PTLE studio at home. I also write lyrics...but my big downfall is my singing voice....it definately limits me. Please take a listen to this idea for a tune and see what you think. There is an intro and then two verses and then a chorus (and then it all repeats). I am thinking of just using one verse and then a chorus...but let me know what your thoughts are: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7236552 Look forward to hearing from you... Members blue2blue
I sort of like it as it is... the chorus is pretty high calorie. If you go into it too soon it's like getting desert in the middle of dinner. Or something. Anyhow, this is a pretty good sounding back track for a power ballad type love song. The drum sound might be a little 'live' and in your face for the genre, but, for my tastes, it gives it a little bite and edge. You'll need a big singer to not be overpowered by the background detail offered by the drums, someone with a lot of color and an interesting timbre in their voice to complement the detailed texture of the drums (and that edgy guitar or guitar-sounding synth [on the right] toward the end). This isn't my field/genre but I could imagine this would work great with the right collaborator(s).

Members blue2blue
Yeah... I wouldn't worry too much about your vocals as far as demos go. You just want to get the idea of the melody and rhythm across. Also, you might be amazed by what you can get away with, vocally. I know I often am when someone says something nice about my vocals. Members LeonardScaper
you might be amazed by what you can get away with, vocally. Ain't it the truth! Sing your song, man.....if you have one. Sing it with feeling and it just might work in spite of any self-percieved limitations.
Members rsadasiv
Given that listening to my vocals has been compared to being "punched in the taint" I am probably not the right person to help you.

Members rsadasiv
I was going to say something similar, but you put it so eloquently... Wasn't me who put it so eloquently.... The vocal in the verse loses meI'm just not into the vocal style. It sort of ruins it for me.Not a fan at all of the vocal styleWow, the vocals are way offDespite the hilariously awkward vocalsthe vocal styling is like a punch in the taint if you're not familiar with itVocals deprived this one of being a really strong contender.Less musical than Zappa's voice http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2290379
Members rsadasiv
Back to the OP - I have never heard him sing, but this is definitely a style that kennychaffin enjoys - send him a PM if you are looking for some lyrics. As far as the song itself, I pretty much agree with Blue2Blue - sounds like a big ol' power ballad which, given the current arrangement, is going to need a big ol' voice to put the lyric across. Members Sentry68
Ram: ouch, that was brutal. OTOH, I'm a fan. I like your vocal style. It's unique, and while it might not go with every entree, it definitely compliments your work. Fire Island is a great example. OP: It's got a Styx power ballad feel. Well done, the right vox would set it off well. I hear a Dennis DeYoung high range lead with plenty of backup on the chorus. That's the most obvious to me, although you could certainly mix it up. If you have words for it, maybe you should sing it the best you can so you can at least get your idea across to any potential singers out there (of which I am not one). GL with it. Members rsadasiv
Ram: ouch, that was brutal. Clearly, this is an area where I need to improve - apparently I still a have a lot of work to do in order to produce acceptable sounding vocal tracks. Well, quite a few of my vox tracks have made a number of people around here "cringe," although I don't feel like finding quotes. What else can you do but work on it? Anyways, I thought this song sounded really good. I wish you luck in search for a singer. However, maybe you can just keep practicing your vocal melody and then bang out a decent vocal track.....you never know.....
Members Bodyguard2112
Yeah, I mean if I was worried about my crappy vocals, I'd never get ANYTHING done! Yeah...
