Hello again... Figured id come out of hibernation and start putting up some of the new tracks ive been doin lately...

Old amps, old keys, old sounds and odd/twisted ideas and themes... As always...

Some of the material is somewhat crude/adult content so if you arent 18 go do your homework and dont listen to this stuff...

The new tracks are Black Sparrow... I Got High... My Guitar Gently Tweaks... Don't Call It Static...

Wow, every post you've made is by you saying "Give um a listen?" I don't think I will? Other's may... But if everyone here stands up and says "TAKE A LOOK AT THESE!" And no one ever says, "hey those are nice" then it's not a forum? Good day, and good luck... I'm confident others will comment, they always do.

I think what he's getting at is that this forum is dedicated to giving and getting feedback and constructive criticism on songs in progress.

Giving thoughtful, constructive feedback on a song takes some time and effort. Sometimes I spend as much as 10 or 15 minutes listening to and commenting on a 3 minutes song.

We don't like to think of it as a give-to-get situation, but, let's face it, unless people are willing to put back in what they get out -- pretty soon no one will be commenting or even listening. No one here in this forum (including the moderator) gets paid. We're doing it out of love of the craft of songwriting and with the hope of fostering a helpful, collegial environment.

We've all seen plenty of promo forums -- filled with one-post threads, mostly without answers, everyone saying, listen to my song -- but no one there to do it.

This forum is set up to help writers with their works in progress, and the rules here are set up to avoid empty promo threads like you see elsewhere.

So, it's paradoxical -- this forum is not for promo -- but it may be one of the few places you can get the song you're working on actually heard.

There's no rule here, though, that says anyone has to participate in the forum or reciprocate for the efforts of others in giving feedback and constructive criticism to him -- you could think of it as the honor system, maybe -- but, all the same, those who are all get and no give may sooner or later find themselves either getting no response -- or an unwanted response like these.

That is part of what it is... Its also a good place to find other musicians who like to do their own recordings... Ive found quite a few musicians on this board and have done quite the bit of talking with them. About their music, my music, their gear, my gear and etc.... But usually outside of this board... Quite often thru MySpace messages...

The thing I found odd is that I havent posted a message on this board since 2008... And quickly get jumped as if im some fly-by spammer who is in here constantly trying to "promote" a product or something??? I just make odd noise for fun. And occasionally put it up for others to hear...

If you take a look at the Songwriting Forum rules (in this sticky thread at the top of the forum listings -- SW Forum RULES (read this BEFORE posting!) :: RESOURCE LIST -- you'll see that this forum is an on-topic only, work-oriented forum and that posting tracks here is reserved for those looking for feedback and assistance with works in progress. It's very definitely not a promo or check out my tunes forum.

But we welcome songwriters to discuss songwriting, offer feedback on others' works, and, when one has a new song that he's working on and needs constructive criticism or feedback, post it for discussion and feedback. (But keep in mind the two way street angle alluded to above.)

Fair enough. Guess ill stop using it as a way to find other musicians who like to record then... Damn shame tho if ya ask me as its a good place to find other people who happen to record a lot. Oh well, to each their own...

Well, this particular forum is a songwriting forum. Not a recording forum. Why not check out some of the recording oriented forums here at Harmony Central or at GearSlutz?

This board seemed better for finding others who record quite often. Where as the "recording" board on this site is more tech/gear issues it seems. Like I said fair enough... I just wont use it. Never had any issues before so I didnt think folks cared. Cant really discuss my stuff mid song as its pretty much just 1st take improv based weirdness done for fun and free entertainment. Done in 1 sitting over a few hours. Anyways ill stop putting my stuff up and nobody will be annoyed anymore. Sounds like a fair trade...

IMO it's still a good place for doing that, but (as you can tell) the "hey listen to these four or five tunes kthxbai" type of thread hasn't really been too popular lately.

From what I've seen around here I'd say you may get a better reaction when posting one tune and getting some discussion going about various aspects of that one tune: lyrics, music, recording, production, and so forth.

You haven't been around much lately so it's understandable why it feels a bit different around here. I'd check out your tunes, but my computer is even older than your last post and it won't do myspace. I didn't even think myspace was used anymore!

Other forums have their own agenda and rules, of course. Bottom line is that it's hard to find a place where one can post links to his songs and have much hope of having anyone listen.

Why is that?

Because most of the places that welcome such promo posts quickly turn into a forum full of one-post threads that few look at -- because folks making those posts are the only ones going to such forums -- and, by and large, they don't care about listening to your songs, they want you to listen to their songs.

It's tough to give away music these days. ;)

No argument there. I was more into using this board as a place to find other musicians who like to record a lot... Wasnt really about getting people to listen to my stuff... More interested in finding people to talk to. About gear, recording techniques, collabs and etc... And people who have most likely recorded something in the past few weeks... From what Ive found over time this board is one of the better places to find those kind of people...

I record all the time? I have many songs on my page (CHECK UM OUT! :-)

I still learn on each project and get better, and again, meant no disrespect? My point was, sure it's good to receive? When folks listen to your stuff? But it's a community too? So it's good to give back "once in a while" I don't think there are any rules? But if you post 10? Try to comment on 2 or 3? They don't have to be mine (WHICH ROCK HARD!) Could be anybody? But that just makes it "feel" more like a communitiy IMO. It's fun :-) And you'd be surprised? You have opinions and perspectives that others may not? All are valuable IMO. Yours too. Don't go away mad, don't go away? Listen? Comment? Contribute? Only takes a couple minutes, and it's fun :-) Even if it's just some inane BS? Which I'm pretty good at adding? But everyone is looking for others opinions because that's what makes "us all better" :-)

You'll actually find a lot of the regulars here also hang out over in the Recording Forum -- and I see some guys from the SW Forum over at GearSlutz as well.

It's not like we (or at least some of us) don't like to talk about recording and gear and such, it's just that you'll tend to find us doing it in a forum that's oriented to recording issues. Come hang out with us. :D
