Members mightysasquatch
Listening to the John Lennon Anthology, where he is at home, recording quick and dirty demo's of new songs. Any suggestions on a recorder? What do you use?
Members rockinrobby
I've seen those nice little hand held digital recorders which look perfect for just that? I always record in my studio though using Sonar.
Members rsadasiv
I've heard good things about the Zoom, but I'm kind of a studio guy myself.
Members blue2blue
I'll use my phone if I have to -- but it sounds bad. I mean, like garbled. Not groovy and lo fi. If it's something tricky (and I've been trying to push some guitar technique things in the relatively-new-to-me DADGAD tuning so that happens frequently nowadays) I'll fire up my point-n-shoot cam and shoot video of it. (I can EQ the audio enough to be able to sort of live with it. I've even put it up on YT in a couple cases.) If it's just something where I want to get the feel (and not some genius trick I'll never remember) I'll use my desk mic ("Skype mic," in the parlance of the era) with the free, open source Audacity program. It's pretty basic as DAWs go. (OK, downright primitive.) But it can do overdubs and I can leave it to default to my built in everyday audio interface (instead of my good one, which I have to get out a good mic for, etc) so I can be recording an idea in about 30 seconds or so, assuming I'm in front of the computer. Members grace_slick
If I'm out of the house or not at my studio area and can't get there, I'll use my phone or MP3 player to record. Just a rough draft so when I hear it back later when I can record, I remember the original inspiration.
