Members MadSkillzMan
Hey guys. i have an 80s MXR distortion+ (the rubber casing, not metal) and i totally love its tone, and i love the fact its like the PERFECT classic rock distortion BUT, if i could get more distortion out of it, heavier, i think itd fit perfect in this band im in now. Im just hunting for MY tone. So far in the works i got a MT-2 ive modded the hell out of..im adding a tube to it later on...same goes for my GL-100 preamp thanks in advance guys. Members Analog Assassin
The old distortion + had germanium diodes, giving them a more compressed, sustainy sound. It also made them sound less gritty and harsh and a bit lower in output.
Members MadSkillzMan
right, but isnt most of the clipping comming from the opamp?
Members Analog Assassin
Nah, the diodes do the clipping. There is some op-amp distortion contributing but for the most part it's the diodes. If you want, you can get exotic and wire up fets as diodes. I don't remember how, I'm sure Jack Orman can illuminate us with this, he has a project called the Fat Gnat that uses jfets as clippers.
Members MadSkillzMan
isnt that how the one dude got the tube working in it? just wired it as a diode? i was thinking of doing something similar to my MT-2. for looking like a badass with a stompbox tube and i hear it will smooth it out a bit
Members powerplayj
I just built one yesterday and like most pedals and amp lead channels and OD in front will get you the extra sizzle. You are right about it being a good all-around classic distortion. I use a modded TS-9 in front of mine to get me more into Randy Rhoads territory. Members falcon42
Just build a little simple booster and use it infront of the Dit+, that'll coax more gain out of it. AMZ Mosfet or AMZ mini booster will do the trick (www.muzique.com)
