Members newmaxnew
First question is about the nitro. If you did the finish yourself with a product like the reranch nitro you can proceed. If you have one of those fender guitars with the thin coat of non-yellowing nitro over a poly sealer forget it. Most modern nitro products have additives that prevent the yellowing and checking that can happen as original nitro ages. The yellowing is caused by UV exposure. To replicate this you need to leave it out in the sun or another good source of UV. Checking is caused by a rapid expansion of the clear coat and can be replicated only with a fully cured nitro paint job (it may take a year to be fully cured). To produce checking put the piece in the freezer and get it very cold then bring it into a very warm room. Repeat the process until you get the level of checking you want. A maple neck can be sprayed with a tinted nitro that will give it that amber look of an older neck. Good luck on the project. Max

Members newmaxnew
Go to reranch.com and then go the forums, there is a whole sticky thread on the relic process. There is lots of good information there. Max
