I am looking into turning my 67 fender bassman head into a combo amp. The amp chassis is oddly shaped and I believe it would somewhat difficult to do. Any suggestions? And I am wondering as to what type of wood I should use to construct it.

You could get some baltic birch plywood for the wood. Pine would work too. Pretty much any wood will work, but voidless baltic birch is said to be the best. Remove the chassis from the head cab, and take as many measurements as you can. It's not gonna look like a tweed bassman though, because of the way the tubes come out of the chassis.

Are you sure that you want to mod your amp? It's prob worth more in orriginal condition, and having a head and a separate cab is usually easier to transport that one BIG ASS HEAVEY CAB.

You can also buy a ready made cab and see if your head chassis would fit.

Here's a guy in Jacksonville who can do an excellent job if you ever think about having someone do the cab for you.
