Help With Effects Loop Please

I posted this in the amp forum, but figured I should post here as well. The people in this forum are usually more knowledgable so....

I have a Marshall TSL 100 Watt Head. The effects loop in this thing is very noisey. Lots of buzz and hum. I have not used the effects loop in several years so the jacks could be dirty and I'll try some contact cleaner tomorrow, but does anybody have any other answers or suggestions to get rid of the buzz and hum? I have the correct loop levels selected according to the manual. The cables are in good condition and the pedal itself is not noisey in front of the amp so....

Edit to add that I think the hum is getting worse. I don't remember it being this noisey last night. I did put an overdrive pedal in the loop before I read the manual that says not to do that. I also heard a pop when I changed the loop level with everything powered up. I'm running the correct loop level now, but maybe I damaged something with the overdrive or that pop?

try plugging a jumper cable in with no effects. If you still have a hum, you popped something, if not, you've got a bad cable, pedal, etc.

My opinion, all Marshalls made after the JCM 800 series are crap. I've worked on lots of the 900 and 2000 stuff and it's a pain, wires everywhere, boards with all kinds of switching circuits and IC's. blah, blah, blah
