Members Ziggs65
Having recently thrown out the guts of a Fender Champ, I salvaged the 12" speaker from it and want to wire it up to my Vox AD30VT. I disconnected the vox speaker and run wires from the vox amp to the speaker in the champ with no problems. My question is this - can I do this and keep the vox speaker wired as well without damaging the amplifier? I was thinking of bridging wires coming from the vox speaker to the fender? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Members BuckyB
I don't recommend this. First of all, the Champ is rated at 5 watts output, so the speaker probably can't handle much more than this. The Vox is rated at 30 watt, so it could easily overpower and damage the Champ speaker. Second, wiring the speakers either in parallel or series would (probably) result in eother a 4 ohm or 16 ohm load to the Vox amp, which is probably designed for an 8 ohm load. All in all, I don't think there's anything to be gained from such an experiment, while there are definite risks to your amp.
Members Ziggs65
http://www.pawnplex.com/Musical-ins/Fender%20Champ%2025/index.htmThis is the Champ I have - it's 25watt amplifier with an 8ohm speaker. Is the speaker likely to get damaged by a 30 watt amplifier? Excuse my ignorance on this, but not had much experience with amplifiers.
Members BuckyB
Well, there's not that much diff between 25w & 30w, so it'd probably be fine. Try it and see if you like it better than the Vox speaker. They're bound to sound at least a LITTLE different. You could always replace the Vox speaker with the Fender speaker, in the Vox cabinet if you liked it better. Either way, you have a backup part at the ready, should something happen to one of them in the future.
