Members Eternal_idol
Hey I am modding a pedal and the part i have found is rated at 50volts would that work in a guitar pedal at 9vs? Brae
Members Pillimees
Yes. 50V is the maximum voltage that the cap can handle.
Moderators isaac42 Posted September 11, 2007 Moderators Share Posted September 11, 2007 As Pillimees said, a higher voltage rating is fine. It's like having a car that can go 120mph. You're not going to hurt it by riving it at 65.

Brae Yes, the only thing you have to be worried about is the size. CG
Members Eternal_idol
so everyone is saying the max voltage doesn't really matter if you are only using it with a 9 volt circuit so i could use 600V caps if need be and it should work? Members Prog
Yes. As said, it will just get bigger in size.
Members Pillimees
Not to mention more expensive. so everyone is saying the max voltage doesn't really matter if you are only using it with a 9 volt circuit Well, it does matter, in the sense that you'll want the max voltage rating to be higher than whatever voltage is used in the circuit (9V for most stompboxes). Considering the possibility of sudden voltage spikes, you might even want to have your caps rated for twice the supply voltage. I'm not sure how common low-voltage caps are, but I've seen 10V and 16V ones, and even the latter are a bit on the low side of safe for stompbox use. Bottom line: never hurts to check the voltage rating before you click the "Buy" button.
