Capacitor voltage question.

so everyone is saying the max voltage doesn't really matter if you are only using it with a 9 volt circuit

 

Well, it does matter, in the sense that you'll want the max voltage rating to be higher than whatever voltage is used in the circuit (9V for most stompboxes). Considering the possibility of sudden voltage spikes, you might even want to have your caps rated for twice the supply voltage. I'm not sure how common low-voltage caps are, but I've seen 10V and 16V ones, and even the latter are a bit on the low side of safe for stompbox use.

 

Bottom line: never hurts to check the voltage rating before you click the "Buy" button.
