Members nerol1st
I just made one. Ordered from here www.stewmac.com and cut out on a scroll saw. Sanded the edges and viola done. I don't have any pics because I am still restoreing the guitar however. :erk: It came out okay though.
Members jrayg
I made a super nice pick guard years ago using a piece of plexi-glass. I traced around the old pick guard and cut it with a scroll band saw and sanded the edges. Be very careful when drilling holes - go slow and easy. I painted the back of the pick guard with some silver and black which left the glossy finish of the plexi-glass on top. It really looked great. Wish I had pictures but I sold the guitar soon after. Good Luck

Members biggy boy
I made one out of wood. It is book matched curly maple about 1/4 inch thick. I cut it out on a electric scroll saw set at an angle to make the edges sloped. First I made up a template using Bristol board aka project board. then traced it out on the wood. And here is the first one that I made. I just glued on a thin veneer of birch to my original pick-guard. Glen
Members karma279
I've heard a lot of guys going to Lowes/Home Depot and buying vinyl tiles; cutting and rounding edges.
Members cephus
wood is easier than plastic. But those wooden ones look too thick. that guy atrox in the electric guitar forum made one for an explorer and it looked like he used a scraper to finish the bevelled edge. The edge was the issue for me. I have a large blank from stew mac and need to cut out a custom shaped pickguard. I haven't done it because i had so much trouble even modding plastic pickguards using dremmel and sandpaper. If you do cut plastic, keep the speed of your tool down. If the speed is too high, the plastic will melt and glob up and ruin it.
