Members Sic666
The truss rod of my ovation needs to be tighten but when I start to tighten it I hear like a CRRRRRRRR. Is that normal?
Members karma279
If it's giving resistance then stop......Are you sure it's needing a truss adjustment? Have you measured the neck bow?
Members mrbrown49
Sounds like it needs to be lubed up. Best left to a competent tech if you aren't sure how to do it.
Members Cynical1
Is is a popping noise? If so this is normal. If it's a pronounced CRACK and the truss rod no longer adjusts anything, then it's bad. The best way to start a truss rod adjustment is to loosen the nut first. If the nut will unscrew completely it would be a good idea to lubricate the nut before putting it back on. Make VERY small adjustments. 1/4 turn at a time. If you're cranking more then one turn then STOP. There may be other issues with the neck. Make sure the strings are in tune before you start making adjustments...and GO SLOW. There are a boat load of links out there on how to make a truss rod adjustment. Just do a Google search. Happy Trails Scott
Members Sic666
Thanks. No it wasnt a crack sound it was like a crrr like something breaking wood or in the point of breaking I stoped when it started to do that. I'm gonna loose it just in case. Members Cynical1
OK, this could mean several things. If it wasn't a popping noise that stopped after about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn then it might be a bad thing. Most manufacturers don't worry about the glue from the fretboard getting on the truss rod when they assemble the neck (wood glue does not work on metal) so alot of the time the popping noise is just the rod breaking away from the glue. How many turns did you make on this truss rod before the noise started, or you stopped turning it? Did you notice any change, better or worse, in the neck after you tried to make the adjustment? What's the history on the instrument? Is there a good music shop in your area that could take a look at it for you? I hate to throw questions back at you rather then answers, but I'd hate to tell you your truss rod is broken loose without seeing it. Good Luck Scott

Thanks for the help.
