Wiring Help

I have a few Questions about the wiring on this Washburn I am redoing. The odd thing about it seems to be that the Grey wires hold both the ground and hot making it difficult, so any help would be fantastic.

1) I am going to install a killswitch, Some have 2 prongs some have 6 (or other) Which one should I choose and How would I install it given the wiring.

2)Out of nothing but curiosity, There seems to be 2 wires doing nothing. One is the wire that goes from the Volume Pot to the (very popular) ground by the 3 way switch (round w/ 7 lugs, lower left) and the other mystery wire is the one from the Vol. Pot that gets grounded on the Trem. Assembly. Whats up with them?

Thanks.

1. Use a SPST (2 prongs) "on/off" toggle switch connected to signal wire between input and volume. You could also use a SPDT(3 prongs) just connect input signal wire to center and volume to one of the other remaining prongs. Then toggle the switch to find out which direction kills the signal.

2. Grounding rule of thumb to avoid "ground loops" all common grounds should be terminated at one common point. In this instance its the metal case of the volume pot. The switch, tone, iput jack, trem all to the vol pot as you drew it. The trem can pickup stray signals so it is best to ground direct otherwise that signal will find another path and possibly lead to a noise issue.

the one thing I can tell from your drawing is the open lug on your volume pot should be grounded, not open as depicted.

Short the input signal to ground for the kill switch. Thats what your volume pot does when you turn it all the way down.
