Members billboardofgod Posted February 21, 2008 Members Share Posted February 21, 2008 when i turn up the master volume i hear a hum but no guitar... speaker cabinet works.cables work.guitar works. anybody have any ideas for something i should check before i shell out $100 to get it fixed? Members OnWingsOfLead Posted February 22, 2008 Members Share Posted February 22, 2008 Ok, do this step by step....I just did this tonight on my friends Peavey XXX. His amp was humming and no guitar signal was coming through. We thought he blew a brand new KT77. Turns out, one of the tubes wasnt seated right. Works fine now. Start with the weakest link, in this case, the fuses. Make sure they are all good, if you have had any power spikes or if a tube went, odds are a fuse went out. Then pull your tubes, clean the sockets and reseat them. If that doesn't work, change the tubes and hopefully it would work. If not, your options are either that your amp got hot, melted some solder on the resistors and they cooled, leaving a cold solder, or one of your other components went out, meaning hours upon hours with a multimeter, or taking it to and paying a tech.
