Members Deeprig9
I recently rewired an avatar from stereo parallel to series, so I could play through both speakers with a single input from my head. I did this as soon as I bought it, so I can't testify to any difference in sound. However, my other cab is also stereo parallel, I want both of those speakers moving air too, with the other output of my head, but rewiring this particular cab will be very intensive because of the way it's made. Before I embark, are there any rules of thumb about what kind of sound difference one can expect to hear going to series wiring?

Members Deeprig9
The one I rewired was 8, now 16 I understand. The ones I want to rewire, are already 16 ohm, so they'd be 32 after the series rewire. The amp only switches between 8 and 16.
Members zoomzilla
I rewired my 4X12 to parallel to see what difference it made. At high volume the Parallel sounded a bit better, but at lower volumes, the series/parallel sounded better. I stuck with the series/parallel. The problem you run into with Parallel wiring is that you cannot run 2 cabs if you drop your ohms to 4 in the cab. Assuming you have wire a 4X12 with 16 ohm speakers. Members Deeprig9
Maybe I have it backwards, wiring series doubles* or halves* the impedence? (in a 2x)

Members WRGKMC
When working with the same ohmage speakers the impediance doubles with series and halved in parallel. A good way to remember it If theres 2 paths (2 Hoses) theres less resistance to the water flow. In series theres twice the resistance cause the water needs to pass through two resistord which doubles the resistance. As far as a difference in sound if the speakers are matched and phased the same, there shouldnt be much difference in sound. If you have mixed brands, wattages, SPL ratings, Ohms etc there may definately be a difference in sound.
Members De-bone-air
Parallel speakers will be 6 db more efficient than speakers in series.
Members Deaf Eddie
Parallel speakers will be 6 db more efficient than speakers in series. Wow! That's the first time I've heard that! 6db is an INCREDIBLE amount of difference, considering that the rule of thumb I've always heard was +3db = twice as loud. Where did you get that info?
