Members Eddie27
I'm building my first lap steel and got to thinking, What would happen if I connected the pickup wire straight to the input jack? I never use my volume or tone pots on my electrics (with the exception of the bass contour on my Reverend).
Members Saturnine10
It'll work just fine, the guitar will always be on though when plugged into an amp.
Members mrbrown49
I would work just fine. You may find its a bit bright without the volume/tone circuit though.
Members Slaymoar
Some guys add a resistor between the + and - to cancel out some noise. Like EMG's use a 25k and most other guits use 250k or 500k. To make sure you get all the avail headroom, a 1M resistor should do it. -D
Members tedmich
some "cut" the pot trace to give ~ zero ohms full on, see Gerald Weber's books, can use step attenuator too. no need for anything in front of the preamp, my axe has no pot...having done it to death as a teen,
Members WRGKMC
For a lap steel, I would go without it and use a good bufferd volume pedal like a morley to get that violin like country sound.
