Blocking my strat trem...

Great, thanks guys.

It all depends if the local shop has springs or not. :)

thanks again!

EDIT: Would taking the springs from an old Squier be a bad idea??

Are there any negative sides to adding springs? Can it affect tone, intonnation?

THanks

Also, string wise, should they be off completely?

just use 4 springs and have it cranked back to the body

so you can use trem or leave it on the body for better sustain. Thats what I do
:thu:

I'd agree this is the best way to go. Anything you jam in there like wood or other types of metal is going to affect the tone and sustain...better to have direct contact with the guitar body.

I have ine strat that only needs 2 springs with the spring claw back against the wood. Came that way when I bought it. I can use .009s on it and still have a soft touch to the whammy. I used to be able to use 10s on it and still have it lay flush but the springs are 8 years old now and it would require new springs or a 3rd to prevent the bridge from lifting when I bend strings. If you dont use the whammy at all you can use as many springs as you want, But if you use it occasionally dont use any more than you have to. The whammy bar screw hole will get worn and wobbely and if you keep tightening it it can eventuslly break off which is a bitch to drill out and and fix.
