Members fretty1982
Ok the thing is the kit came with braided wire which I want in the LP.But the pickups have 4wires instead of the braided wire.So I kinda have half and half. All the diagrams i've seen(been looking for 3weeks now)I can find tons of either diagrams but not suitable for me.....at least that's what I think..!http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_2v_2t_3wHere's one that came with it,pickups are the same so can you use braided wire with that diagram?Any help would be great Cheers
Members BigRoy
If I'm understanding your question correctly, you want to wire two braided wire pickups instead of the multi-wire type pickups shown in the diagram. Yes, it can be done. The braid gets soldered to the back of the volume pot just like the bare wire of the multi-wire pickup and the black wire inside the braid goes to the same terminal of the volume pot just like the bare wire of the multi-wire pickup in the diagram. Members WRGKMC
What I read is you dont plan on using multi wired pickup combinations and just want to go with standard 2 wire humbucker config for pups. This can easily be done. You need the wiring diagram from the manufacture to properly wire each pup in a series config properly phased, It may be like this """for example""" only Black Outside shielding goes to - Ground, Green + solderd to White - (then taped up) Red goes to + Hot side. Theres no standard on color codes between Mfgs This is only and example of How I might try an unknown pickupfor standard humbucker wiring

Yes that's kinda what i'm trying to do.I suppose an easier way of saying it would be....The diagram in my post shows the exact same pickups and coloured wires as mine.So I have,2 SD pickups with 5 coloured wires out of each, covered in a black sleeve.A wiring upgrade kit with 4 pots,a 3way switch,Jack, and 5ft Braided Wire,Now,my problem is where to run the braided wire in the diagram? Can I use it for connecting everything else?I'm having a hard time explaining myself so apologies all round:)
Members mikeman
I am going to assume the braided wire is going to the ground wires that go from pot to pot. But you will need covered wire to run to the jacks, switch etc that aren't attached to the pickups.
Members fretty1982
Ok I think I have it;Braided wire can only be used from pot to pot and not from 3Way to jack....?Just don't know why there is a load of braided wire with the wiring kit thoughThanks for the help:thu:
Members WRGKMC
The braded wire may be just for grounding. Ive also seen braded wire shielding that allows you to pass another wire inside it. It provides shielding for single stranded wire. Original Gibson wire like in my les paul has uncoated shielded wire (No plastic coating) Inside the shielding is cotton coated core wire. I've always seen that type wire come like that with the core wire inside the shielded. I wouldnt rule out that a kit might have you shield your own connecting wires though. if you have a picture of what came in the kit or link to where you bought it it would be easy enough to figure out. I would think they'd give you instructions especially for the wiring.
Members carverdank
If you are referring to the Gibson style vintage braided wire, you can run 3 lengths of it to the 3 way. Just make sure that the braid is taped or covered (inside the cavity)when it comes back through the control cavity to the jack, or route it around the pots so it doesn't short out.
