I lost sound out of the horn in my ampeg 4x10 HLF. When I checked for the problem, I discovered an interesting "light bulb" on the crossover that has blown. It looks like a standard tail light bulb for a car but it is not. I couldn't find one of these in many auto stores and the Home Depot.

It has unique numbers on it (1683 28V32CP) that did not match any bulb at those stores.

Anybody know where and how I can get a replacement?

Thanks, I will. It's a shame I have to go through that for something as simple as a bulb.

I guess this is just one reason why I should stick exclusively with Mesa Boogie. I never had a single problem out of any of it. I had a Mesa 4x10 that I replaced with an 8x10. So I was left with this Ampeg that was sitting in the studio. I figured I would make it work because my band was playing some smaller venues. Since I have been digging into the cab I've noticed it really is crap compared to the Mesa Boogie. As soon as I get this thing working right I am selling it to help fund a new Mesa 4x10.

Sick of the Bull!

Hi

This protector lamp is a number 1683

It is a 28 volt and 32 candlepower lamp.

A single contact bayonet base style number BA15s

The rated operating current is 1.02 amps

Likely expensive from Loud Technologies ( bought St Louis Music)

If you have an airport nearby with a repair or maintenance facility - you may be able to find it there.

Google #1683 lamp and see what may be found perhaps close to you.

It should have that rating for replacement, and if especially using a lower current lamp - it will illuminate sooner and limit your high end before it was designed to ''limit''.

The brighter the lamp goes -

the more series resistance is encountered (reducing signal to driver)

Be glad the lamp went out instead of a high freq driver.......

Might want to have a look at how much high end you are creating during performance.
