control knobs with my feet?

The main issue is I want to control the "direct input level" knob of my boss OC-2 with my feet.

The 3rd Handis the only way I can find. However, I've heard that the thing is very unreliable, and I'm not comfortible with paying 80-90$ on an empty metal enclosure with a few (probably plastic) gears in it. especially if it's unreliable, which I've read that it is. (I think anyone whos played with gears can see how the mechanics of this works, btw)

so I TURN TO YOU, BY BROTHERS IN {censored}ING {censored} UP, (diy mods) TO HELP ME DEVISE A WAY TO DO THIS!

the only other way I can figure is to take the Pot out of the 0c-2, run wires, and put the pot in an broken WAH enclosure...or just put the whole damn thing in a broken wah enclosure.....this is a pretty nice petal, and I'm not really keen on hacking it up/recaseing it.

I'd like to find a method that involves minimal mods to the oc-2.

creativity appreciated

Buy a cheap volume pedal. Open both pedals up and identify the pot you want to control with you foot. Replace the pot in the volume pedal with one of the same type. grab ye olde soldering iron replace the pot int he original pedal with hook up wire. Run the hook up wire to the 'volume pedal' and solder them to the pot. This willl effectively 'extend the knob to the pedal. Voids warranty but if done properly will work well.Just be sure to keep the pedals close together and the hook up wire as short as possible to avoid noise.

Just set the Direct-In level to zero, and split the clean signal prior to the OC-2 and then send the clean to a volume pedal, and then mix the outputs of the vol pedal and OC-2. The vol pedal then controls the 'clean' blend which I'm guessing is what the Direct In knob does.

I like the volume pedal idea......

the split/mix idea was really great....I may end up using this....because then I could fade the wet mix in and out too, which would be actually better for my application.... however, that would require me to jury-rig a basic 2 input mixer together....

the rubber on the knob idea is delightfully lo-fi... OOH! i could perform barefoot!...wait that would be dangerous... but I would love to perform with barefeet. that would be awesome....I'll definitely try it

honestly, the best solution would be to recase it in a volume pedal... But I'm probably not going to do this

I think i would remove the Level pot and replace it with a TRS jack and then run that via stereo cable to a "custom" wah/vol pedal that has the same K pot as the one thats in the OC-2...

That might work but it would take alot of work to do so..

I didn't initially suggest that as I thought it would be a lot of work but thinking about it now if the pedal will easily accomodate the trs plug, this would actually be fairly easy to do. Make sure the 'Earth lead' (if there is one) gets the sleeve to aid with grounding.

Yea, my thought process was that there are 3 lugs on a pot and 3 connections in a TRS jack/cable. Just make sure that they match up and in theory you should be ok..

Not sure if the TRS jack will fit inside the stock housing though, you might have to place the OC2 on another empty enclosure and put the jack in there.. Just run the 3 wires to the other enclosure and wire up the jack..

AHH! a tps (stereo 1/4 in lead) connector! that coupled with the customized volume/wah pedal is a WONDERFUL idea!!! I could even mod multiple pedals to work with the "Knobulator" (I think a fair name)

this opens up many exciting possibilities with efx experiments.

thank you all. I'll definitely post here if I decide to do this....

Another possibility would be to use a hobby servo attached to the knob somehow. It's pretty easy to build a "voltage in, servo pulse out" control circuit with a couple 555 timer chips.

And then convert a volume pedal to a voltage pedal to control the control circuit with.

Mounting the servo and attaching it to the knob would be the hardest part I think.
