yamaha g100 amp knobs

First time poster, please let me know if I have posted in the forum or improperly.

I have an old Yamaha G100-212-II solid state amp, on which a common problem seems to be that the amp's knobs come off (probably common on most older amps?). As such, I bought this used and it is missing quite a few knobs and some of the ones still present come off easily (makes it kind of annoying for the pull pots).

I couldn't find anything googling it, so I am pretty sure getting the original knobs is almost impossible. Does any one have any experience with this amp and replacing the knobs with something that looks pretty decent? Also, do you just glue it on?

Thanks in advance for any info provided!!

your best bet would be just to replace all the knobs entirely.

what kind of knob, would be up to you.

chicken head style white, chicken head black or something like this might work the best. yet in the end, the choice would be yours.

and on most higher grade amps, the knobs have a set screw you tighten down to keep the knob from pulling off.

Bummer, man. I just looked up a picture of that amp and those knobs aren't generic looking. If it's not important to you to retain the original look, I agree with TRevMFB on replacing them altogether.

They look like they're push-on knobs. If so, they probably are on split-shaft pots. Over time, the split shafts can bend inward, making it easy for the knobs to come off. You can carefully widen the gap between the shaft sides again to help the knobs stay on.

You might be able to find a source for the witchhat-type knob used for the master volume (at least I think that's what the left-most knob is on that one) so they all match.

Another alternative is to put knobs on that use setscrews. That opens up a whole new world of possibilities, from chrome domed knobs to old bakelite-type knobs like my Royal amp has on it (just like these). That listing is for vintage knobs, but you can buy new ones that look just like them in bulk if you decide you like that type.

Thanks for the post guys... yeah, I definitely intend on changing all of them...

Also, you're right, they are split shaft... this was a listing for the exact same amp and presumably whoever owned it had the same problem with the knobs (the white ones are the replacements):

I contacted the seller regarding where they got those replacements, but he/she said it was done by the previous owner.

I guess my biggest concern is about getting the fit right. Are shafts usually the same size? Will most push on knobs fit? Can the screw type knobs work with any size shaft... (that sounded dirty)?

Thanks for answering my questions!!
